DUBAI (Reuters) - Abu Dhabi's Etihad Airways on Monday said it would cover medical and quarantine costs for passengers if they contract the new coronavirus after traveling on one of its flights.

Airlines around the world are trying to find ways to stimulate demand that has been shattered by the pandemic and expected to take years to recover.

Medical costs of up to 150,000 euros ($177,000) and quarantine costs of up to 100 euro a day for 14 days will be covered by Etihad for its passengers who contract the disease within 31 days of first travel.

“This additional cover will not only instill confidence to travel but also reassure our guests that we are doing all we can to keep them safe and protected," Etihad Vice President Duncan Bureau said in a statement.

The COVID-19 cover is included in the airfare of tickets for travel until the end of the year, valid around the world and is being offered in partnership with insurance firm AXA <AXAF.PA>.

The move matches Dubai's Emirates, which in July started offering free COVID-19 insurance.

Does Thailand accept it to meet the $100K insurance requirement?

It'll also be interesting to see what happens when someone gets coronavirus and is hospitalized for the pneumonia or heart damage.  Will that claim be honored?

Very good, except that that as this is THAI Visa Forum, neither the Etihad nor Emirates offers do anybody here any good until the borders open, quarantine is no longer required....etc...etc....ad nauseum!

The Emirates flights can currently be used for repatriation of non Thais in line with the current requirements.

The Thai Government should be doing the same if they want Tourists to ever come back

instead they come up with a Cash Raking In Scheme for insurance companies. They must have made

a packet on that domestic 500B insurance scheme already with millions signing up but so few cases.

Why wouldn't they pay up? With thousands of customers they can easily write off the cost of any treatment in the price of a ticket.
They probably just don't need to mark up massive profit though.

also they offer it but I bet they put the price onto the expensive air fares ????

I looked at some fares ex UK a day or so ago.  ~ £700 GBP for Economy and £2,331 for Business Class.  Not as cheap as pre Covid but not out of order.  These were return fares.
