Not since I moved back to the US in 1980.  ????  Do they still have the Paint Drying Festival?   My sis-in-law runs a World Class recycling center in Loei town.

 

Loei does have some nice scenery and caves/rock formations and the like.  I would like to spend time on the back roads on a proper motorcycle.  There's a motorcycle club that often has group rides and whatnot.  They seem to have a lot of fun.  In fact, this weekend there's an event related to tourism promotion.  They even get a police escort.

 

Loei Gentleman's Motorcycle Club Notice. This Saturday 26th September LGMC members and all foreigners have been asked to join in and help support Loei province tourism by the DASTA (Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Authority) We plan to meet up and ride with many supporting local motorcycle groups to Chiag Khan sky walk. Cars and Motorcycles Welcome.

 

Meeting at PTT fuel station (on the left side about 1 klm before Rajabat Loei University Loei to Chiang Khan Road) We will have a police escort leading our convoy.

Schedule :

Leaving at at 9am to Chiag Khan sky walk.

10.30 free entry into sky walk.

11.00 - 11.30 groups ride into Chiang Khan town.

11.30 - 12.00am free lunch and beverage. Some group activities in the afternoon then back into Loei Town.

Later that evening starting at 7.00pm there will be a biker party and groups meeting at Whats Up bar and restaurant (LGMC club house) with live music entertainment and free drinks supported by TAT. My wife is from Khon Kaen, but after having lived in the Seattle area with mountains and rivers, we are considering a move to Loei or Phetchabun. It's really hard to find information on Loei. Definitely not the big city living! We'll be over to visit once travel restrictions are lessened. Cheers. (We have visited - her former coworker worked there and we spent the afternoon up at the big dam there on one of those boats and had lunch. And then there's Chiang Khan, of course.)

       Nought , else to do there ...

I like Chiang Khan for a chilly,  laid-back getaway in winter, I really do, but a world class destination it is not.

Traffic in downtown Loei was worse in 1963 than now.
