My wife has been applying for a visa for Korea based upon my visa that I already have. Basically she gets added to it and a stamp put in her passport.

The Korean consulate in Bangkok wouldn't accept any of our Thai papers even though they accepted an American friends papers when he went with his wife (this could be the problem that I didn'' go).

I spoke to the head person in the consulate who told my wife to bring a marriage certificate from the UK. I spoke to the UK embassy and they said that she needs to get her copy translated, taken to Chang Wattana road stamped as an official translation, taken to the UK embassy stamped again and that will be the papers legalized.

So she did all that and was refused again based on it not being a UK certificate. I explained to the plonker on the phone what the embassy said to me but he wasn't having any of it.

So what can we do. He told me to bring her here on a VOA and change it once she was here without any problems. Which I am skeptical about.

How do I register my marriage with the UK. Will they issue any sort of marriage certificate or is the consular guy just being obtuse?

I have the translated stamped documents on their way to Korea by Fed-Ex to use them here if needs be. Show them to the UK embassy here.

Cheers

I know nothing of the Korean rules and regulations, but if you married in Thailand, it's not possible to obtain a British-style marriage certificate. You may have your Thai certificate recorded at the embassy, but this does nothing more than place on record at the General Register Office a copy.

Scouse.
