Well if you want the blunt truth, that we will probably end up having to subsidise it, indefinitely.

Anyway, another thread discussing the UK and the EU hijacked by he Scottish Nationalists...

In what way would whats left of the UK be subsidising Scotland?

Look back at the thread. See who mentioned Scottish independence.

Well the Scots have created a party with the fundamental aim of extracting our country from this detrimental union. Why don't the English do the same rather than sit idly by and whine?

Because it's just not that important to us. To most English it's like having an annoying, chavvy, ginger stepchild always moaning about something, but thankfully the council estate they live on is far enough away that it's easier to ignore them than completely disown them.

There won't be many tears shed south of Northumberland if you leave, I can assure you.

BS.

The point is that when you start a game you can't change the rules during the game for one side.

It doesn't matter how many votes that government got..... they are foul players and law breakers.

Nothing to do with Brexiteers or Remainers. ????

The EU were at it from the off.

There will be no return to the EU for the UK because very shortly there will be no UK. It is currently on life support and the plug will be pulled on it very soon, thank god.

Lots of hard working people are doing their utmost to put it to sleep, hopefully as painlessly as possible, although there are the belligerent minority who will, no doubt, cause problems, but they are all talk and no trousers in the main; more to be pitied than scorned.

Sounds like scorn to me.

Brexit: Brussels rebuffs new UK proposals on state subsidies
Paper on guarantees for struggling companies still leaves major gap with EU position

Boris Johnson has been rebuffed by Brussels after making an eleventh hour attempt to break the Brexit logjam with new proposals on limiting state subsidies to ailing British companies.

As the latest week of negotiations began, EU sources welcomed the UK’s effort to make a compromise with a submission of a new round of “negotiating papers”, but warned that a large gap remained between the two sides.

According to Brussels sources, the UK’s paper on state aid, the most contentious of the outstanding issues, offered to lay out a series of “principles” on controlling domestic subsidies.

Good to see the Internal Market Bill got final backing in the House of Commons.

Perfect timing with the talks resuming this week. Gets us off on the right foot. Marvelous.

Scottish government have already said they will challenge this bill in the courts given it breaks the Sewell convention and has not been ratified by Hollyrood.

So Johnsons government are not only causing international outrage its also creating a constitutional one.

One that might make the treaty of union null and void.

Didn't know Left is so powerful in the U.K..

Is there any reason why Right let that happen, and is continuing to let it happens?

Or must I read your post as sarcasm, or a kind of humor?

Good question Luke. Did the moderates let it happen or was it forced on them, it's a bit like someone spilling a tin of paint on your patio, it only takes a minute to spill, but a very long time to clean up, Boris is in the process of cleaning the mess up that Tony Blairs Labour Government subjected us to.

I guess Tony Blairs idea of 50% students going to uni didn't help now did it, all it created was a false impression that unemployment was low, he thought that the students would bind to the Labour Party and finally he wanted future generations to be loyal left wing followers of socialism.

These people leave uni with worthless qualifications and a mountain of debt and suddenly it's all the fault of the Tories.

That is why you don't get many elitist university leavers marching our streets with banners proclaiming 'Labour Scum' as opposed to the, shall we call them conditioned students marching and chanting 'Tory Scum. In affect they are taught to hate at uni and it takes a long time for that condition to wear off.

Many establishment jobs now require the emphasis to be on your politics rather than your qualifications, I suppose the more left you lean the more chance of securing that position.

and natrually the labour party looks after its own with "jobs for the boys"the most glaring example being city hall and transport for london who's not only managed to get itself 3 billion pounds in debt, but has all but bought traffic to a halt with its crackpot schemes.labour also famoysly " sent out the search parties to rub the right wings noses in it "hoping they,d all repay labours generosity by supporting the party, pity a few of them upon arriving then wanted to blow us up.

Britain has offered a three-year transition period for European fishing fleets to allow them to prepare for the post-Brexit changes as part of an 11th-hour deal sweetener.

The catches of EU fishermen would be “phased down” between 2021 and 2024 to offer time for European coastal communities to adapt to the changes.

The lengthy transition period is contained in a new negotiating paper tabled ahead of the current round of negotiations in Brussels between the teams respectively led by the UK’s chief negotiator, David Frost, and his EU counterpart, Michel Barnier.

EU must be thinking they will have access to Scottish fishing waters if they are happy with that.

Brexit blow to car industry as EU rejects crucial UK plan to avoid export tariffs
Ministers pleaded for parts from third countries to be treated as British - to escape duties - but EU says no

Brexit has delivered another blow to the struggling UK car industry after the EU rejected a crucial UK plan to avoid tariffs on exports.

Ministers had asked for parts brought in from Japan, South Korea or Turkey to be treated as British, to qualify under strict rules-of-origin if a trade agreement is struck.

But, in a letter to car bosses, to accept but Britain's chief Brexit negotiator has admitted he has failed to persuade the EU he proposal – and “obviously cannot insist on it”.

It means exports now face tariffs unless the majority of their value originates from the UK or EU. Typically, the figure is only 44 per cent for a car assembled in this country.
