British Man in Pattaya Crashes Motorcycle into Sidecar, Driver Severely Injured
So the alcohol trumped the cannabis then ? Otherwise. he'd have been so calm he'd probably still be trying to start the bike.......as some would have us believe ? -

Must Read Its Happening - Law to Tax Overseas Income Now in Progress
Yeah, I saw the headline, had a mild panic and then realised it: 1) Isn't actually happening 2) Probably won't happen 3) If it does happen it will be impossible to enforce 4) If it does happen and they do manage to find a way to enforce it I'll just leave. I doubt that will be anytime prior to 2040 though so plenty of time to prepare. -

House gop push bill that links federal funding to a citizenship check for new voters
They are not, it has already been done. There is no need for additional laws and agencies to do what has been done for two hundred years. -

Correct if you have a work permit. For retirees, I doubt they will enforce it. -

I agree they could not manage since you are asking . The only people ready to manage is the opportunistic lawyers and the come lately accountants. -

Wrong. It's total ASSESSABLE income. If your DTA says your home country pension is not assessable by Thailand, it will, then, just be a missing number on your Thai tax return. If all or most of your worldwide income is not assessable by Thailand per DTA, then you don't even need to file a tax return. -

If I'm already taxed in the US, I believe there's a treaty against double taxation in Thailand, no? So, I think Thailand can only tax the "foreign earned income" part of my income, which is exempt fro US taxes. Am I on the wrong track? Anyway, I've bookmarked a couple Bangkok accounting firms. There will be loopholes just like there are with visas. I'm not giving Thai authorities access to my US bank accounts. Can they demand to see my US tax returns? Wonder how they will implement and manage this giant scheme. Spending half the year in Vietnam would be a gigantic pain. -

Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part II
That is an interpretation - not a fact. It could be that, but under the TRD self-assessment system I do not see it that way. If TRD provides an exact detailed response or statement saying that all mutual funds overseas are taxable, then I will accept that as a fact. But until then, what I have read says 'mutual fund'. A mutual fund is not where a person's money is invested and they are paid interest - a mutual fund is where a group of people, under Government control and rules, invest their already taxed funds for mutual benefit - usually for their retirement savings. The members of a mutual fund are not paid interest - they mutually benefit from the fund increasing its total value - after the fund has paid to the Government the applicable taxes. Likewise, they all mutually lose when its value drops like during GFC and/or Covid and/or Ukraine War etc etc. -

That may be true. But what you and others here don't seem to understand is that then law that has laws been in place deals with only what bis accessible income and who has to file. First check the revenue code to see if your pension is exempt. Then if you want to be a good boy, Gert a tax ID and file. The DTA only helps you determine if you have to pay Thailand or not. The point is that technically you need to file. Most of the expats moaning probably won't have to pay 1 Baht. However, until we know about enforcement, are you going to voluntarily file? Three of my clients denied tax IDs because the revenue dept said its was not needed. Then you have the expat in that mist recent you tube video charging expats 7000 Baht for a tax ID. Wait and see about enforcement. -

PM suspected of Trying to Erase Evidence Related to Thaksin's Hospital Stay
No. Winning more votes than any other party is not the same thing as winning 'a majority of votes' (ie more than all the other parties put together). Which is why we don't have an MFP (or now PP) government. In parliamentary democracies - and even in pseudo-democracies such as Thailand - 'winner takes all' is NOT the underlying concept or process. -

The Thai ETA (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation)
Will be interesting to see if people with long term visa extensions (Retirement, marriage etc) also have to do the ETA as they have a approved visa/extension. Also interesting to see what the waiting time will be for the ETA if required, as i have often a last minute flight change (within 24 hours) due to my work. -

Why is Trump Really Running for Office Again?
True. In this case, where the sentencing takes place after the election, and Trump wins (God forbid).....does he just pardon himself??? -

Musk the useful idiot
"how to decide what is true and what not" research provides us with reliable facts. when reliable facts tell another story then the claim that was made is a lie. the goal is not to reach a conclusive end for each and every claim made, nor to control politics or media. the goal is to prosecute enough lies so that the deterrence effect is enough to keep media and politics for the most part honest. bias is the reason why I concentrate on clear-cut cases leaving no room for interpretation. bias can't apply there. -

He was good last time. No wars started, good economy. I don't know where you get the "disaster" stuff from.
