Which You Khao Talo? There seem to be at least 24 of them in Pattaya; don't how many in other parts of Thiland.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Let the accident happen first, then address the safety issue. Sound familiar?

Wouldn't it be better to make sure bus drivers have common sense and really know how to drive?

  • Will not help, the amount of people i see passing thru the barriers just ahead of the train just amazes me. Stop, look and listen!Nah ,will not work either. You can not help some one who does

At least 60 years behind the rest of the world. I suppose you could say better late than never although I doubt the families from this tragedy would agree.

Cant they just put a few sticks there like they do with holes in the roads and pavement, what about sticking a bit of red cloth on like they do on the blatantly illegal loads on pickups that decapitate motorcyclists....

Don't forget Thailand is "World Class" which World & Class they are referring to is anyone's guess .............LOL

.........It requires some vision and foresight.......

there is the answer!

What about all those massive u-turn bridges they are erecting to get across the tracks in every two buffalo village from north to south while installing red lights on all the major highways?

Hub of massive U-turn bridge over railroad tracks. ????????????

Yet another pie in the sky idea without sitting down and working out the costs . Yes 20 people were killed and many injured but this is a fraction of the numbers when you look at road deaths week in week out . RIP to the deceased.

Always wait until the horse has bolted

No, they don't address the safety issue. Not a hope in hell of all crossings getting barriers. Lucky if this crossing gets one. Safety is of little concern with the exception of covid19, which I still don't understand why.

Always some knee-jerk reaction to any tragedy...it would be much more effective to encourage a safety awareness culture in the land transportation sector (trains, busses, trucks, vans, taxis) and enforce existing alcohol, maximum work hours, and maximum load laws already on the books.

the problem is ALL Thais have right of way on roads, and added to that all driving have the right to use mobiles,

Doing this properly in Thailand means you have to make sure all the horses have fully bolted and there's enough of a head start for the drivers to properly flee the scene. Then you take a photo of the empty stable with police pointing fingers at the remaining piles of horse manure to let the public know they have properly dealt with it.

Sadly as many of us know educating Drivers correctly would be a game changeer, but after years here, I am sure the truth is you cannot educate STUPID and sadly many of the local Thai drivers are just that, they know the risks, oblivious to others and gaily go on their way , without any worries or concerns about others be they passengers or other road users.

A country where more credence is given to Buddha, amulets, age old beliefs and complete lack of common-sense coupled with almost zero enforcement of the vast majority of Thai traffic laws with fines so low it is laughable. AND the Insurance companies happy to pay out millions because of law breaking accidents and fatalities purely down to driver incompetence.

more like form a committee and talk about it endlessly , then do nothing

plus excursions abroad to visit functioning railroad crossings

"barriers"

Lift gates are not barriers unless they cannot be breached by a vehicle. A barrier prevents intrusion, ie., from a vehicle. A cost effective alternate to a real barrier (ie.,  prevent wheeled vehicles) is some kind of traffic bypass (ie., tunnel), unique road/railway grade/alignment features or perimeter cyclonefencing /berms through areas of illegal crossings.

What the Minister said is just a KJR...that's Knee Jerk Reaction.  Something not unusual for politicians the world over!

And an opportunity to make a few quid.

They have to be full barriers across both lanes on both sides.....this is Thailand after all.

So they can drive around them as they do on the highways when the constructed u-turn is more than 100 metres from where they want to turn.

All too familiar, this has been going on for years yet it takes a crash of this enormity to get the ministers to react.

Cannot see it happening, state  rail is almost if not bankrupt, who is going to pay for it?

Is there a country in the world where all railroad crossings has a phsycial barrier?

The point is, to make the Thais following the laws!!!!!!

I believe it is a sport, for Thais to disobey laws, rules and regulations.

I have seen it by myself, they break the law million times a day.

Even thought, they will fine the motorcyclists on the sidewalk.....

I have reported over a hundred, never got 1 Baht of the promised reward.

Nobody follow the law. Laws are only enforced against foreigners.

Replace the transport minister first, but then again the legacy will continue.

Beat the traffic lights go through on red, beat the barriers feel so proud look at me Buddha is with me.

If there is a barrier most Thai’s will want to go over/around.

Err.

What part of too late don't they understand?

And of course people have to actually stop if a train is imminent.

Barriers or not.

That is because Thailand was never occupied by a foreign country ????

The Japanese, after invasion, occupied Thailand in 1942.

The US regards Thailand's status during WWII as an occupied country, and thus ignored the declaration of war against them from Thailand.

Countries with proper driver training and competency assessment don't necessarily require physical barriers. Signage is usually enough to alert the competent driver of the danger.

To play   this  video  is in  the poorest of taste

Too many  killed and  hurt in that accident

Shocking  sorry   to  display  that ......    the effect  of the  family  would be devestating

Very  sad

However  can anybody explian  why the  bus driver  seemed to slow  down  before time of impact?

That  crossing is open too  ..How  could  that driver  not see that train  comming  ?????

As for  marking  crossings   ....well  lets  shoot the horse  after it has  died

Great   Video for  tourism too  .... Chinese  love go in tour  Buses  and Boat trips

Good  Luck Thailand

They are building high speed track from BKK down south, they are putting flyovers over every junction, they dont trust Thais to stop at flimsy barriers !!!

Don't you just admire the way Thailand carries out their Risk Assessments, still a least something may be done to minimise any further tragedy.

Exactly! Too bad 20 people that to die first. Incase they are wondering, your roads and highways are incredibly dangerous, you might want to try enforcing a traffic law once in a while.
