Which You Khao Talo? There seem to be at least 24 of them in Pattaya; don't how many in other parts of Thiland.

Cant they just put a few sticks there like they do with holes in the roads and pavement, what about sticking a bit of red cloth on like they do on the blatantly illegal loads on pickups that decapitate motorcyclists....

Don't forget Thailand is "World Class" which World & Class they are referring to is anyone's guess .............LOL

What about all those massive u-turn bridges they are erecting to get across the tracks in every two buffalo village from north to south while installing red lights on all the major highways?

Hub of massive U-turn bridge over railroad tracks. ????????????

Always some knee-jerk reaction to any tragedy...it would be much more effective to encourage a safety awareness culture in the land transportation sector (trains, busses, trucks, vans, taxis) and enforce existing alcohol, maximum work hours, and maximum load laws already on the books.

Sadly as many of us know educating Drivers correctly would be a game changeer, but after years here, I am sure the truth is you cannot educate STUPID and sadly many of the local Thai drivers are just that, they know the risks, oblivious to others and gaily go on their way , without any worries or concerns about others be they passengers or other road users.

A country where more credence is given to Buddha, amulets, age old beliefs and complete lack of common-sense coupled with almost zero enforcement of the vast majority of Thai traffic laws with fines so low it is laughable. AND the Insurance companies happy to pay out millions because of law breaking accidents and fatalities purely down to driver incompetence.

"barriers"

Lift gates are not barriers unless they cannot be breached by a vehicle. A barrier prevents intrusion, ie., from a vehicle. A cost effective alternate to a real barrier (ie.,  prevent wheeled vehicles) is some kind of traffic bypass (ie., tunnel), unique road/railway grade/alignment features or perimeter cyclonefencing /berms through areas of illegal crossings.

They have to be full barriers across both lanes on both sides.....this is Thailand after all.

So they can drive around them as they do on the highways when the constructed u-turn is more than 100 metres from where they want to turn.

Let the accident happen first, then address the safety issue. Sound familiar?

All too familiar, this has been going on for years yet it takes a crash of this enormity to get the ministers to react.

That is because Thailand was never occupied by a foreign country ????

The Japanese, after invasion, occupied Thailand in 1942.

The US regards Thailand's status during WWII as an occupied country, and thus ignored the declaration of war against them from Thailand.

Is there a country in the world where all railroad crossings has a phsycial barrier?

Countries with proper driver training and competency assessment don't necessarily require physical barriers. Signage is usually enough to alert the competent driver of the danger.

To play   this  video  is in  the poorest of taste

Too many  killed and  hurt in that accident

Shocking  sorry   to  display  that ......    the effect  of the  family  would be devestating

Very  sad

However  can anybody explian  why the  bus driver  seemed to slow  down  before time of impact?

That  crossing is open too  ..How  could  that driver  not see that train  comming  ?????

As for  marking  crossings   ....well  lets  shoot the horse  after it has  died

Great   Video for  tourism too  .... Chinese  love go in tour  Buses  and Boat trips

Good  Luck Thailand

Exactly! Too bad 20 people that to die first. Incase they are wondering, your roads and highways are incredibly dangerous, you might want to try enforcing a traffic law once in a while.
