Otto2910
I would like to apply for a Non OA in Germany. Is Hanse Merkur insurance accepted or which German insurance is accepted?
ubonjoe
It would be accepted if it meets the minimum requirements after they sign this form posted on the TGIA insurance website. https://longstay.tgia.org/home/companiesoa Download Overseas Insurance Certificate
Sheryl
I recall one prior TVF member who was able to sue this insurance company. Note that they need to sign the certificate. Also note that while you can use this for the initial visa you will not be able to use it for an in-country extension of stay.
Peter Denis
Hi Otto, I did PM you a guideline document on how to meet the mandatory health-insurance requirement when applying for the Non Imm O-A Visa in your home-country. In that same PM I also provided you some info on the Hanse-Merkur insurance (as Sheryl indicated there was a German applicant for the Non Imm O-A that took a policy with them and succeeded in having the Foreign Insurance Certificate signed by them). >> To access your PM-messages just click the letter-icon next to your Profile when logged-in to the Forum. rwill
If you are going to be staying in Thailand for more than a year and you do not already have insurance it may be better just to go ahead and get insurance now that will also be accepted when you do your extension. Aforek
You could take an insurance in Germany and take in same time LMG , even if you don't use it ( 7500 bahts ) The French insurance CFE has signed a contract with LMG ( 4500 bahts a year ) and now many do it, they will not use it but they get their visa O-A , immigration accepts it much, much better than the thai insurances scam

Would that not depend on whether the applicant had been in Thailand for 6 months already, so the Thai insurance would provide cover? (not aware that Thai insurance requirement has change since last year).

dapperdan
I thought you needed to have a Thai insurance company policy for the OA retirement visa application.

No, in your home country you can choose which insurance you choose for the first year.
Peter Denis
1 hour ago, dapperdan said: I thought you needed to have a Thai insurance company policy for the OA retirement visa application. When applying for the Non Imm O-A Visa in your home-country you have the option to choose for a foreign/international insurance policy as long as it meets the (ridiculously low) 400K/40K in/out-patient coverage requirements, but you will need a signed/filled-in Foreign Insurance Certificate by your insurer stating that your policy meets the requirements. When in Thailand and applying for the 1-year extension of stay based on that original Non Imm O-A Visa for reason of RETIREMENT, you do not have that choice and are required to subscribe to an IO-approved policy issued by one of the TGIA-associated insurers. But when applying for that 1-year extension for a different reason than RETIREMENT (e.g. marriage to a Thai national, or having Thai dependent children) there is no insurance requirement. You can also switch to a Non Imm O Visa, by exiting Thailand (currently not possible of course) and on return VisaExempt or on a Tourist Visa, then apply at your local IO for the 90-day Non Imm O Visa for reason of retirement, subsequently followed by your application for the 1-year extension of stay of that Non Imm O Visa for reason of retirement. Doing so you will have effectively 'dumped' the health-insurance requirement (and all other requirements/conditions of that Non Imm O based extension are same as for the Non Imm O-A based extension). >> PM me if you need more info on any of the above (e.g. applying for the Non Imm O-A Visa in your home-country, subscribing to a Thai IO-approved Non Imm O-A compliant insurance policy, switching from a Non Imm O-A Visa to a Non Imm O Visa).
