Sanook reported on a horrific accident in Chumphon in the south of Thailand when a retired soldier was dragged on a motorcycle for several meters on a road after a collision with a petrol tanker carrying 40,000 liters of fuel.

It happened on a road connecting Petchkasem Highway with downtown Chumphon yesterday morning.

The twenty two wheel vehicle driven by Suphot, 51, who was waiting for police at the scene, hit a Honda Wave ridden by 70 year old Sgt Maj 1st Class Kraidech.

The motorcyclist was badly mutilated after being dragged 15 meters towards a bridge.

Twenty meter long braking marks on the road showed that Suphot had used his brakes but was not in time to avoid a collision.

A picture showed people at the scene pointing to the registration plates of both tanker and motorcycle.

Twenty meter long braking marks on the road showed that

... it was not break failure (this time)

But was his speed appropriate?

... or the safety distqance?

The amount of times I have to brake or take avoiding action for a motorcyclists astonishes me, I’m assuming there are so many others out there who see similar.

Pretty much daily and happened to me only a couple of hours ago.
