Agree...this has got to be one of the most peaceful demonstrations (considering its size and aims) that I have ever witnessed........this will, however, turn violent, but only at the behest of the authorities to justify them going in heavy handed.

The Government doing what it is doing by starting of with restricting freedoms and rights will just ramp up the people more by doing what they are doing instead of having the guts to have a face to face, listen to the problems grieved and then be open to making changes and be transparent with what they are doing.

Don't you see? That is the problem.....Thais should not be as a poor as they are.....the country is being raped by The Armed Forces, The police, the politicians, the temples and five or so Chinese families.

That is true.

 

The country is still mired in feudalism, and no government, military or else, has done anything to change that.

 

A few families of Chinese origin have literally appropriated the country, while spreading the mantra that Thailand is different because it has never been colonized...good one...

Yes, because all non army governments have so feared  the consequences of the army's displeasure they have done nearly everything the army wanted.  They held back from making the radical changes that were needed.

This lot effectively jailed the whole country in 2014 and stripped them of their rights if I remember correctly, and now the prisoners are getting restless and saying enough is enough and they want their rights back and seek release from imprisonment.

Yes they tried putting 6 million votes in the bin thinking those votes wouldn't be missed, an assumption that was surely a miscalculation.

The only armed group in this part of the world that I remember wearing scarves was the Khmer Rouge.

Border Patrol Police I think.

 

The coloured scarfs simply indicate which detachment or sub unit they are from. Allows the commanders with overview to see how their men are deployed.

 

"Scared" well, yes, when you are used to strutting your stuff at a road checkpoint, with everyone trying not to be noticed by you, then suddenly coming face to face with tens of thousands of hostile demonstrators is possibly a bit scary!

 

Unarmed, yes, those in contact with the crowds are - too much risk of having the weapons seized. I should imagine that there are plenty of weapons  available if/when needed.

The patches don't match. But maybe these are Scout BCPs?

 

That said, the chaps in full riot gear at Ratchaprasong this afternoon do have the BCP patches (war elephant with all the options) clearly visible.

 

I think the color scarves denote the actual police group - there are so many groups. Just a guess. Bright green seem to be Bangkok metropolitan Police.

Actually, what really strikes me, given the sort of varied composition of the crowd - grannies, schoolkids, etc., is the absence of monks.

Excellent work by the RTP.  Control and remove the crowd. Violent groups were instructed to leave and disobeyed Khun Prayut's request.

 

The police have done a good job as these thugs were causing violence and mayhem. 

The police restrained from thuggery and did such a good job.

Try doing that protest and violence in Australia or the US and see how authorities respond.

Disperse these violent protestors as instructed. I have been in meetings on site today and I can tell you the instructors and speakers urging the students on are not peaceful. 

They were warned several time to move on ....

The police acted with the utmost restraint .....  but they can only accept so much.

Yes I was nearby and seen it on TV.

They were asked to disperse and leave and they disobeyed as such the police moved in.
