New Thai Wife And Name Change

Featured Replies

My new wife entered the U.S. on a K1 Fiance visa in March. We just got married in April and now I am filing to change her status. I am confused about what to do with her name. Of course normally she would take my family name as hers here in the U.S., and I assume I would file the paperwork for her status change using the new name. Then of course she would get a residency card with her new name, but have a Thai passport with her maiden name. I plan to apply for an advance parole so she can go back to Thailand with me on a business trip in June. I assume her change in status will still be in the works when this happens. Do anyone have any experience with this? Will there be any problem at immigration with her name here being different than her Thai Passport?

Sorry for the litany of questions, The government offices I called were not much help.I just want to make sure she does not have any problems in the future as we travel back and forth.

Thanks

If your wife changes her name legally in the US, she can send off her Thai passport (with marriage certificate) to the nearest consulate/embassy where the name change can be noted in the 'endoresemtns' page of her passport. This is probably the easiest way. Travelling with the marrage certificate for airlines to see may simply be the other option, although I am not sure about the latter.
