Rising stink from floodwaters triggers health fears

The Pollution Control Department has been tasked with monitoring floodwater around the country after complaints of foul-smelling odour from stagnant runoff.

 

The Natural Resources and Environment Ministry has expressed concern about hazardous pollution in the floodwater, as drains and sewers become overwhelmed by seasonal downpours.

 

The ministry said it is preparing more equipment and vehicles for rescue operations underway in flood-hit communities across the country.

Meanwhile, the Pollution Control Department has launched a 1650 hotline for residents to report pollution issues from flooding.

 

The move came after locals in Nakhon Ratchasima province complained that floodwater which had been standing for more than a week was engulfing their communities in a terrible stench.

The water at my house in Hua Hin stinks all the time. 

I expect Dengue will get worse than it is, especially with a lot more rain coming..

If Thai's would not throw there trash and food leftover all over the place then the floodwater would only be have as contaminated.  We deployed to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and walking through the flood waters to ensure houses were evacuated, was just plain disgusting.  Many of my counterparts ended up getting sick.  Fetid water from floods is full of bacteria and is a breeding ground for helicopter size mosquitos, who can bring dengue.

That's what happens when you don't have proper sewers and waste water treatment plants. Won't be fixed anytime soon.

Our water stinks of rotten eggs in Chonburi.

 

Many residents of our moo baan have complained.

There is another pandemic waiting around the corner.

 

Best would be a unlimited extension of the Emergency decree until Rain Free Rain Seasons are available.

That’s what you get when jobs given to the highest bidder and not highest qualified

Trashed plastic won't end up in sewers if they are not open. You need to separate waste water from housing and storm drains.

I think she was just made head of this department.
