Suvarnabhumi Airport Cutoms incinerates 7.1 million bahts worth of untaxed items

Suvarnabhumi Passenger Customs inspection Office director, Mr. Wattana Yuthasunthorn (วัฒนา ยูถะสุนทร) admits that there is much smuggling of untaxed items into Thailand, and most were purses and explicit items.

Mr. Wattana today supervised the incineration of intellectual property-violating items and explicit items worth 7.1 million baht at the Bangpa-in (บางปะอิน) industrial estate in Ayutthaya province. The items comprise purses, clothes, CDs & DVDs, cigarettes, medicines, and other items.

ัThe items were confiscated by Customs officials at Suvarnabhumi airport who detected the items through scanners on luggage conveyors.

Mr. Wattana said there remain a large number of smuggling groups that operate through Suvarnabhumi airport. He said the groups involve Thais collaborating with foreigners, and that the items are sold at Silom and other hotspots of the high society.

My first thought was porn and sex-aids, but I suspect the "illicit" interpretation is nearer the truth.
