STV: "Get ready for more tourists" transport minister tells Thai airports

Transport minister Saksayam Chidchob has told all the Thai international airports to get ready for more tourists after the start of the Special Tourist Visa scheme showed there were no new infections brought into the country.

Saksayam was touring molecular biology facilities at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport yesterday where he told the press that the first two lots of tourists from China that have arrived in the last two weeks numbered 186.

No one is infected with Covid-19 and all these people are still undergoing 14 day alternative state quarantine. They face a further number of checks.

But Saksayam noted that after these checks they will be free to travel in Thailand.

"Now the airports' authority must prepare the other airports and amass all the equipment they need so that if the government ups the intake of tourists they are ready," he said.

Daily News gave no indication of the likelihood of this though previous targets were to receive up to 1,200 tourists a month on the STV.

Though a drop in the ocean compared to previous levels of tourism the Thai government see this as a testing of the waters, notes Thaivisa.

Saksayam said that his ministry would be providing support to private airports as well singling out Koh Samui where a French woman tested positive after going through ASQ.

Apart from Suvarnabhumi, the six airports that would receive foreign tourists are likely to include Hat Yai, Phuket, Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai and Don Muang.

Probably 301 people a week instead of 300 a week. As long as the draconian processes to get into Thailand remain the less likely it is that any tourists will even bother to want to visit Thailand. My daughter typically visits Thailand for 18 days at Christmas to come with her husband and children to see me. They like to stay by the pool they certainly wouldn't come if for about half their holiday they were locked up in their hotel room. Their daughters stay in one room and my daughter and husband in a separate room they wouldn't even be allowed to see each other! Somebody at TAT please make some recommendations that will actually encourage and not discourage tourism.

He hails from the planet of Buriram, where his family has been reigning like god kings for generations.

Read the OP.

Have to go out and hire hundreds of locals to stand in line to ensure that people wait at least an hour to get passport stamped

????????????  Headline:  The 3 Stooges are alive and well and posting on TVF!   You Stooges crack me up with some of you comments!

On Swampy airport ALL THE SHOPS were closed and abandoned,  most were totally empty. I wonder if they all will return , not for 300 tourists i bet.

Same for the taxi's, are they still waiting at the queue ?

Even for flight tickets, there's no guarantee that your flightcompany will still exist next month.....

Open up. Open up. Also for non immigrant O visa from consulates.

Here we go.

Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang looks soon like that.

People even sitting on top of the aircrafts and seats will be removed. Just standing upright to get more passengers through the door.

Hotels get ready. Build more 5 star luxury ones.

We need another 60 trillion apartments to host the Ch... airbnb clients.

Hurry up, chance of a lifetime.

Icon Siam on a Saturday morning.

Millions of people waiting to get in.

Boats outside the mall queuing up towards Chiang Mai.

Trillions of Baht being spent a day. Banks from all over the world setting up new branches around each mall.

I think if i was Transport Minister I would concentrate on reducing the abysmal road carnage, and leave the tourist speculations to TAT & AOT.

Cloud cuckoo land.....some of these guys would struggle to make it into the Boris Johnson's Cabinet (or fridge)

Just chatted to one of the famous “Chinese tourists” who came in from China on an STV mid week.

He was a European businessman ????????
