Thailand to track tourists with digital wristbands

The Thai government has announced plans to track foreign tourists using digital wristbands.

The new wristbands will be introduced from 1 November and will be used as a tool in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The wristbands track the location of the wearer and are also capable of measuring heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature.

If a body temperature over 37.5c is recorded, an alert will automatically be sent to local health officials.

The limited number of foreigners arriving in Thailand as part of the Special Tourist Visa program will be the first to wear the new wristbands.

It is not known how long foreign tourists would be required to wear the wristband.

The news comes as the Cabinet this week agreed in principle to allow foreign tourists and crew of yachts to enter Thailand under the Special Tourist Visa program.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to tattoo an OCR symbol on their forehead?

The only tools in the fight against the Covid-19 ripple are these people with the ridiculous, over the top ideas !

“ 2 weeks quarantine , then tracking you wherever you go does not really seems to me as a dream vacation.

What happens if I go to Soi 6, or to a relaxing massage and they see my heartrate beating like a helicopter?

They may send a helthcare squad to catch me during action.“

Wonder how much these are going to cost the tourist ?

I don't see this appealing to too many potential visitors. Health certificates, testing and now tracking? Ain't my idea of a relaxing holiday.

They havent got a clue. One minute they are suggesting ways of attracting more tourists such as reducing the quarantine period, then next they announce this.

They really are driving a nail in the already buried coffin.

It also has a secret microphone and video camera so they can check in on you to make sure you are safe and best of all streams your entire stay to a "secure" server.

Even if i didnt mind to jump all the hoops, what's great about thailand now? Pattaya is closed, you need mouthmasks everywhere and you're farang so be double carefull....

Even the beach is closed, you can't smoke there, pools are closed, samui is empty.....

Why would a tourist go to thailand right now?

These devices are full of flaws, they're going to send alarms of low blood pressure, tachycardia, fever all over the place. It's not gonna work.

No no no no no. Thailand please stop embarrassing yourself with these virtually daily farcical announcements of how you are going to deal with your proposed "guests" who are awaiting en mass to flood in. If you really want meaningful tourism and visitors who will view Thailand as a desirable destination during these very difficult times, you really need to think very carefully very soon.

Come on TVF. It's surely fake news. I was first sent this on Line by a friend (who likes his conspiracies) and then a link to PattayaNews, and now Richard Barrow is sharing the Pattaya News link on his FB page. It CAN'T WORK!

Even if the crazy lawmakers forced it through (supposed to come into effect TOMORROW) the things wouldn't work, especially understanding the language of the 'questions' and giving correct and understandable answers. Plus, how can it check blood pressure? Oh, and if it can't be removed by the user (the whole point, isn't it?) then it needs to be waterproof, and how much is it going to cost?

Finally, they talk about users asking it for help WITHIN ASQ! Well, what the hell is the point in them wearing one IN QUARANTINE?

April Fools' Day7 months late or 5 months early.

they'll test it on tourists first, then make expats who never left wear them 24/7

  • Popular Post

Oh, and I forgot to mention that even this is an official TVF news thread, I see no source, credible or otherwise. If it's all from this same PattayaNews article, then they really are cashing in on the exposure, aren't they?

Mods tell us not to post news threads without credible sources, but I can't see one here on the OP. Please forgive and correct me if I'm wrong. It's early in the day.

And how much will cost this wristband? How much money does the government take out of tourists pockets?

So first tourist visa, then booking trip and/or accommodation and ticket with thai travel agency, expensive Thai health insurance, pre arrival covid test, quarantine hotel and so on. Wow Thailand knows how to empty our pockets.

The cartoon hand and wristband in the OP; at a very quick glance, the running man in the top LHS corner of the watchface looked like a swastika.

And in the 711 they will all step away from you with your wristband.....if some infected farang reaches the Thai news they might even ban your entrance to the shop.

I think i'll skip thailand for another 6 months....after that i'll see again where i go.

Are these guys honestly for real?

Though to save any embarrassment, maybe they've purchased these.

If the temp goes above 37.5 it issues a 220v charge to eliminate the Covid threat.
