Check with your local Amphur and consult your neighbours as you may affect their water supplies creating arguments.

On depth it has been said no more than 4 metres otherwise becomes a mining issue although most get away with a little deeper.

Generally a 6 metres bank between ponds for strength if driving heavy machines around.

Just make sure you check the land title because as far as I know if you don't have a full freehold title (Chanote) then you can't dig a hole on the land.
