  • Could be an infection. What about kidney stones? Sometimes a prostate infection is difficult to identify via urine sample. If you can ejaculate they can test it more accurately. I feel

  • Infection or stones are the 2 most likely things

  • Point taken; however, if you can manage that while in severe pain you're a better man than I am.

Are you sure??

Yes as a few minutes a day will not make any difference, this esp when the catheter is less than the size (4ml) of a normal drinking straw (almost half) and inserted using a gel, and a normal urethra is almost twice that size.

Larger catheters can be used where there are obstructions or where dilation is required, and the size is increased to achieve dilation.

Have been on IV antibiotics for 3 days and the doctor says that I am 1 in 100 that doesn't get better after high dosage.

Now they are waiting to get the results of my culture to try and produce something that works. At my recommendation

the urologist has inserted a catheter as  I thought it may help with easing the pain. It has a bit.

The pain doctor is going to do a pain block procedure tomorrow  called a Ganglion Impar Block.

Last chance saloon now

Surprised they didn't do a culture sooner Pauly, because once they have identified the bacteria (if indeed it is one), then they know what antibiotic works best against it!! Rather than using a hit and miss approach.

The good thing about that pain block is that if it works then they know the area upon which to focus, and will probably move away from the antibiotics. And it is nothing to worry about, so all the best old chap.

I have no infections so no need for any more IV, so now I am even more dependant on the pain block working.

I'm starting to panic Xylaphone.

It sounds to me that you are more knowledgeable than they are, The urologist is not talking about focusing on a certain area after the pain block, he's done with me.

I am getting paranoid now, but who wouldn't be,?

After all of the antibiotics they have given you over the past months you'd be free of just about anything Pauly!!

The pain block is injected into a small area where there is a "bundle" of nerves which cover the areas in which you have had problems/pain. If the pain stops then they have found what they need and can work to isolate the exact area which they can treat with ablation or similar..........and if that works you should be pain free!!!

It is a straight forward procedure and could be the end of your suffering, so welcome it with open arms! All the best.

I haven't read back through the thread...but have you had an MRI?

I had one 3 months ago that showed nothing wrong.

I did ask the Urologist if I needed another and he said not.

Forgot to mention, don't worry about the urologist Pauly, because if your problem is elsewhere then a Pain Management Specialist (or similar) will be helping you, this because the urologist has found nothing he can treat, he's done everything he can at the moment.

Again, good luck with the next round of treatment.

Pain block done.

Pain has returned after the anastetic has worn off but it takes time, now it's a watch and wait brief with fingers crossed.

If the pain was blocked then that's a start, now up to them to find exactly what area/nerve/whatever, in order to carry out the next phase.

What next phase X.

They have said nothing about that, they want to observe me for 2 days and then discharge me.

But I have to be pain free before I leave☹️☹️

Should I be concerned?

The pain keeps coming and going, still wearing a catheter to ease the pain but I think I will get them to remove it when I next see the doctor, what do you think?

Well the catheter has done very little to ease the pain, so it is not really needed??

The pain will probably come back when the block wears off but that could be anything from days to months. If the pain is eased significantly then the following can be the next step......

A ganglion impar block is used as a treatment for pain in the genital area. ... If the block works, the doctor may choose to perform radiofrequency ablation (RFA). This involves destruction of the affected nerves using radiofrequency energy.

And that procedure is likely almost non-invasive (just a needle to the desired area and then radio frequency to heat it).  I do not know the exact procedure for nerve but for killing cancer have had twice so far in CT scan room (to position if ultrasound not exact).  No pain from procedure.

Hello buddy.

I was just saying that I wonder if the cystocopy that I recently had was warranted?

The infection specialist immediately diagnosed chronic prostitis and put me on stronger a/ b's at once.

Do you know how long I will have to stay here on a drip,? although I know I have to get out of chronic pain before I am discharged, then I take it I can go on oral medication. Would my thinking be correct? I have also heard that alpha blockers are useful for my condition? They haven't given me any yet.

Cheers Paul

I remember reading your posts from early last month, man sounds like you have been to hell and back, and I sure hope there is light at the end of the tunnel for you.

Yep i'm on the toughest road of my life right now.

Hoping that I will get through and come out the other side, I really thought that between 3 doctors at the 8,th best hospital in the world would fix me.

We will have to see.

No I don't have private health insurance,  I'm sure you can imagine how much it's costing, but I have to get better no matter the cost as it is impossible to live like this.

Thanks for your concern ????

It sounds like they have worked out what it is and are applying the best treatments they can for you, hope you don't have too much further discomfort and recover well and sooner than later, putting this all behind you.

2021 can only be better than 2020 ????
