A Buri Ram resident apparently attacked his father in a fit of rage on Thursday and also threatened to kill his mother.

Police showed up to find Somchai and his wife Boonna (surname withheld) cowering outside the house. The couple said their son Vikorn, 34, went into a deranged state, possibly due to drugs.

He exploded when his demand for money was denied, and damaged everything in the house before attacking his father with a bat and threatening to murder his mother.

By the time police entered the house Vikorn had already escaped.

Somchai told the press that his son often goes into these fits, and he has called the authorities to catch him and have him committed to a mental institution. However, he said, they have failed to snare him so far.

Thirty-four and still living at his parents house? Yeah, I went through this phase when I was c.18, spending my time sleeping on the couch and reading French existentialist novels, I was a total waste of space; my father told me in no uncertain terms, go out and get a job. Whilst I don't want to victim blame, allowing your son to slouch around into his early 30s is a recipe for disaster.

Most 34 year old Thai males are only about 5 years old in the head so that explains it

Where does it say he lives at home? Where does it say he slouches around?

In Thai culture the youngest child, or only child as the case may be, stays with the parents in the family home to take care of them. I understand that this young chap appears to have gone off the rails for some reason but he could well have been in the position of carer prior to this incident.

Not good to assume.

You don't live in your mother's basement, I assume.
