U.S. Supreme Court swiftly ends Trump-backed Texas bid to upend election results

Unless they are hypocrites as well as traitors, the 16 House repubs from PA, MI, WI and GA who signed on for sedition should step down.

I mean, if the election was fraudulent in their State, then they are illegitimate.

I expect Speaker Pelosi, when she swears in the new House the first week of January, will either make these and the 110 other repub House members who signed on for sedition repeat their oath and ask them if they understand it, or she might simply refuse to sit them. They are unworthy.

How stupid to sign onto the petition to say your own election win should not be allowed.

If they feel that way then resign.

You've misunderstood my meaning, Trump would have labelled Bernie a socialist or communist.

In Australian politics, Bernie would probably be centre-right in the political spectrum.

I ROFL when Americans start talking about socialism, they haven't a clue what it means and have never tried it. They are also blissfully unaware there are democracies around the globe where elected socialist governments have introduced lasting reforms. Which the USA could well do with, their health system is shambolic.

No problem for me with socialism ( small s ) as practiced in the UK, which is very socialist. The NHS is brilliant and far better that what we have in NZ.

I think the excesses of socialism ( 3 generations of unemployable living in the same house in the UK etc ) is what puts them off. NZ has to import overseas workers to pick fruit while thousands are unemployed and on benefits. That's IMO not what socialism is about but it is what it has become.

Most Americans love Socialism; they just don't know it. (Pure Libertarians may be holdouts).

-The Dept of Defense, where we're all protected equally despite paying vastly different amounts of taxes, is Socialism.

-The FDA, which approves drugs and checks food, is Socialism

-The Interstate highway system, which has no tolls, is Socialism

-FDIC Insurance for bank deposits under $250K is Socialism

-Medicare and Unemployment Insurance, even Social Security, are Socialism, as payouts often exceed anything ever paid-in

Even a 45 supporter who rants against Socialism can sleep well at night knowing the US is unlikely to be attacked, that the evening meal probably won't make his children sick, that his insulin for his Diabetes Type II won't kill him, that Grandma will make it home safely on I80, that his savings will still be in the bank in the morning, and that if he's laid off he will receive compensation for a time.

Couldn't agree more.

It is indeed a sad day when elected representatives fear the President more than the people.

Oh wow - I've just seen in that same article I quoted earlier, what the next step is. According to the Texas GOP leader, it's secession from the Union!

The crazy is strong in this one.

Right, Texas can secede from the union, build a wall on the Mexican border, then maybe another wall to protect themselves from the country it seceded from, then...

I think this would work out much better for the remaining 49 states in the US than for the isolated nation of Texas.  What happens when Mexico decides to take back the land that was once theirs and is now no longer defended by the US?

They have been 'educated' to think that socialism is a slight watered down version of outright communism........it is amazing what Murdoch can achieve.

When she finished her effort in the primaries she had about 2 or 3% support. Do you have any real evidence and proof that "most democrats would prefer her to be president rather than biden"? It sure does read like a false and misleading statement.

She is still a better option than the guy  we have to suffer through for about another 5 weeks as he gets Pardonpalooza 2020 up and running...and my proof of that statement is she is on the ticket that just got over 80 million votes while the other guy has lost 60 cases trying to overturn that election.

I just watched Rudy on Fox (know your enemy and all that). The question was asked by Hannity "What's your next move?" Without missing a beat, Rudy said he's going back to the states in the hopes they would look differently at the cases. Cases already turned away. Same evidence as before (none).

Mcenany is now spewing SUCH nonsense, referring back to that grainy video which OAN provided and pulling numbers out that place where the sun don't shine and momma never kissed. I feel soiled after watching her. Need a shower.

As with a lot of other things in politics and policy, it's a matter of getting the mix right. Nothing wrong with either capitalism or socialism, as long as neither get out of hand. I sometimes think watching well-meaning people trying to do that is like watching a chimpanzee attempting to play a violin.

Just give this a thought. Majority of Reps believe in Qanon conspiracy theories like the Dems operate a pedo ring and steal children. Surely you can’t argue against them being delusional?

I am so grateful I didn't see the following information until now. Because if I had, I would have bet and lost everything.

Pat Robertson Says God Will 'Intervene' in Favor of Texas SCOTUS Lawsuit

Prominent televangelist Pat Robertson described Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's effort to overturn Joe Biden's victory over Donald Trump in the Supreme Court as "a miracle," saying God will intervene to keep the president in office...

Robertson, a former Southern Baptist minister, made the remarks Thursday during his show The 700 Club on the Christian Broadcasting Network, of which he is the chairman. The well-known evangelical figure, who is 90, praised the Texas attorney general's move, touting the unsubstantiated claims of widespread voter fraud promoted by Trump and his GOP supporters.

But sadly not alone. Not nearly alone.

I am deeply worried that there are people who appear to genuinely think that the Dems successfully set up a monumentally elaborate system across multiple States (and including some Republican officials) to rig the election, but were so useless that they failed to also take the Senate.

The 6-3 decision is misleading.

3 'dissented' only to the court decision not issuing a fully written decision to block the lawsuit.

To wit: the 3 USSC judges said in a statement accompanying the order that if the case was allowed to be filed, they would grant NO OTHER RELIEF. In effect USSC had a 100% consensus to deny the lawsuit.

So much for Trump's and Republican Senators scheme to re-elect if necessary Trump through the USSC based on loyalty to Trump and his political party in judges nominations and selection. Trump asked the Court to make the correct constitutional decision and it did.

Predictably the Presidential Twitter account has fired off a tweet about the S C's lack of courage , wisdom , etc , but disappointingly no full cap's and only one exclamation mark to emphasise his outrage of the injustice .. I was expecting a far more vitriolic broadside with perhaps even an angry imogee or two .. ????

He is either as dumb as a hamster for not understanding the legal reason for the Supreme Court rejection because the case lacked the standing or he think he is king and lord over all the institutions. I think it is both.

Prayers are like horoscopes: you forget all the ones that were wrong or when your deity didn't answer, and get all Alleluia when random chance brings about something that fits or seems to be an answered prayer.

Never would a clown like robertson say, "Maybe 45 and me are not on god's side."  To be a TV preacher, you have to 'know' even more than your deity what the deity wants.

I get that freedom of speech is important but there needs to be more limits on it. There is no way that peddling these blatant lies, fear mongering and hate should be allowed on social media or by broadcasters on the so called news. People have a right to honest and truthful facts, not conspiracy theories and outright lies passed off as facts.

Agree...but there is simply no easy answer to who then controls the 'truth'........the best way long term is trying to teach people to think....(with no hidden agenda)

My notion regarding Trump is it's principally this one you mentioned above, Lord and King!

The would-be dictator believes all those he has invested with power (such as Supreme Court appointees) must in return show undying fealty to him, regardless of the cost or circumstances.

You kind of have to wonder, if he ever tried to demand an oath of loyalty from his Supreme Court nominees in the same way that he demanded -- and didn't get -- one from former FBI Director Comey.
