They live there now and no plans to go anywhere during the virus.my friend is still in cnx and a few others who decided to stay over this.they continue getting the vise extenstion.the government are giving u all a gold star now

Channel 3 recognised the role of foreigners living in Thailand for helping lead the way in the recovery of Thai tourism.

 

Along with Thai domestic tourists they recognised expats as "heroes" in their print headline on a story about a year since Covid struck.

 

They also quoted TAT governor Yutthasak Suphasorn as recognising the role played by both groups of people in what he called the "restart" of tourism after the lowest income in years was experienced in 2020.

 

The media reported that tourism worldwide - 10% of the world economy - had been devastated since the world first learned of the coronavirus, that they said started on December 8th 2019.

 

A 52 trillion baht worldwide industry had been devastated, they said. 

 

But in an upbeat assessment of the future they said that Thailand in particular and Asia in general would recover faster than elsewhere in the world. 

 

They said that Thailand was still a "magnet" for tourism and that Thai investment in building new attractions would bring a new group of tourists.

 

They said that Thailand is recognized as one of the places in the world where the Covid-19 situation has been best handled.

And only two to three years ago, expats were the scourge of Thailand and were getting booted out  for the smallest offences. Once tourism gets back to normal, the Thai government will go after the Farangs again. On a 2nd tangent it is easier to oppress people when there is no foreign  governments watching you because they have expats living there. Hindsight is 20/20, there must have been something the Thai government was preparing for, what that is you can speculate as I will not nor any one should.

Since coming from isaan , I’m tipping everybody a lil Extra for the last couple of months , I slip 100 notes by hand , even 7/11 my favorite girls , Starbucks, Why Not they need it...I know the Cheap don’t like tippers  but it’s my Choice , also if I see Poor Thais outside 7/11 money or snacks , What’s the Big Deal I can’t take it with me

Don't know where they got those figures from either. That would make it 6.5 Mio of long-term stay falang who left. There must have been quite some rush at Suvarnabhumi since say March, considering it would take 17,000 Boeing 777 to transport such an amount of passengers...

Yeah, it was only last year they were stopping farang from entering because they were coming too often. Genuine tourists who wanted to use BKK as a hub from where they could get cheap flights to visit Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia were limited to 2 entries. Guys from Australia and workers based around the region who had a couple weeks off work and wanted to come to Thailand and splash the money around were being stopped or cautioned at the airports for coming too many times.

It certainly feels that way much of time, looking at this govt. But then I look at my wife, and she's certainly a lot happier whenever I come home early from work, or have holidays, and always wants to know when my coming holidays are, regardless of the money involved.

 

If my Thai wife were like her govt, she'd just want me to stay at work and bank transfer my salary. But not so.

After years of abuse, racist comments and being treated with not 1 iota of respect, some in Thailand are just now waking up to the enormous contribution that expats have made to Thailand and the Thai people. Many Thais, and their families, have being generously taken out of poverty and given new lives perhaps through marriage or employment.  

 

But this new found awakening to expats will no doubt disappear when the country floats again.

   It was the land border entries that were restricted to two per year , that was implemented to stop people living in Thailand doing constant land border runs .

   It seemed to be a few rogue immigration officers at certain airports that were refusing people entry , I have a suspicion that was related to the refused/detained people having to pay 800 Baht a night in detention .

  20 people per night in detention is an income of  32 000 Baht per night ,
