A seafood market, in the Muang district of Thailand’s coastal province of Samut Sakhon, has been ordered closed for three days from Thursday after one of the shrimp vendors at the market was found to be infected with COVID-19. 18 people, who were in close contact with the woman, have been quarantined and given swab tests.

Samut Sakhon Governor Veerasak Vichitsaengsri told the media today that the 67-year old woman tested positive for COVID-19 Wednesday and the result was confirmed in a second test today.

Initially, he said that 18 people have been identified as having been in close contact with the infected woman, including medical personnel and family members.

So she got it from a Prawn or is she just a Pawn.  Now thats a fine howdyado.  Guess the fishing fleet workers need to be checked.  A new flotilla of covid like the petri dish cruise ships possibly.

Isn't the shrimp industry princibly run using Burmese workers/slaves?  Probably an epicenter for covid-19, not that there is much testing so who knows the real numbers.

Sorry but the virus is everywhere. If you think you are safe from it in Thailand think again. On the other hand it is not a big deal for most people. At least a few percent of Thais must have had it at some point, maybe more than a year ago, considering the never ending traffic between China and Thailand and the news of the virus being found in Europe in late 2019.

Thank you. Best post on TVF regarding Corona and Thailand. I am saying this all over again to anyone discussing the situation in Thailand but most people still believe the government propaganda of isolated cases.

Considering several scientific approaches such as epidemiology, statistics etc. I absolutely agree with you.

There might be some not yet discovered factors such as genetics, UV light and temperature, previous exposure to Dengue etc. pp that lead to a relatively low number of severe cases and deaths in Thailand. Many infected people might be asymptomatic or just showed flu symptoms that disappeared after a few days but there are certainly much more Covid-19 cases than we found out yet.
