(Reuters) - Silicon Valley billionaire Elon Musk said on Tuesday he reached out to Apple Inc's Tim Cook "during the darkest days of the Model 3 program" to discuss the possibility of Apple acquiring Tesla Inc for "1/10th of our current value."

"He refused to take the meeting," said Musk replying to a Twitter chain which cited a Reuters story on Apple targeting 2024 to produce a passenger vehicle that could include its own breakthrough battery technology on Monday.

The iPhone maker's automotive efforts, known as Project Titan, have proceeded unevenly since 2014 when it first started to design its own vehicle from scratch.

Apple did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

I think Apple was interested but it would have been a no deal if Musk was part of the arrangement. Apple rumoured today to be entering the market with a new battery tech from a company funded by Bill Gates. Musk tweeting to blunt the effect of proposed competition

QuantumScape.  VW has invested about 500 million into it too.  I bought 50 shares when it was the KCAC spac.  It's up over 700% since it went public about a month ago.  Wish I had bought more....

The car is the easy part imo it’s the software and battery’s that are the key maybe apple doesent think Tesla has anything to offer in that regard

Exactly. Much cheaper for Apple to buy a struggling or failing traditional car maker for the car stuff at some point - if that's even necessary at all.

Nothing here about a tweet and he "reached out" years ago. There may be more in the article to bring context to this "webfact" thread, but really, it's old BS.

Apple has no need of a motor company, it already makes enough money out of the gullible hordes who buy its phones

Rule #1 for an established business....YOU GROW OR YOUR DIE.  Your entitled to your opinion but from what I've seen the only ones who say someone has too much usually is not satisfied with what they have.  Just saying

Absolutely true. Just look at how the iPod, then the iPhone, lifted Apple from the ashes. Without them, they would still be a struggling computer company. That said, the automotive business is a quantum leap from the computing business, and it may prove to be a poor choice for Apple.

When Musk tweets something , I always look for an ulterior motive .

Who or what is he trying to manipulate ?

Is he trying to lose 500 Million or gain 500 Million

I thought he was not allowed to tweet things that could influence the stock price.
