Arrivals from Australia

Featured Replies

I'm keen to get back to Thailand for an extended holiday and have not been there since mid-2018.

Has anyone from Australia visited Thailand in the past couple of months and if so how did you manage it?

Thanks

OP, you state "extended holiday". Zero reference to wife or partner or work.

Coming to Thailand for a holiday!  Surely a joke.

Currently I am on lovely island but need to rush back to Bangkok tomorrow just in case restrictions go a## up.

You miss the temples?

At time you have  to apply for a certificate of entry (COE) to board a special flight to here.

See: https://coethailand.mfa.go.th/

Then after arriving you have to go into quarantine for 14 days at a Alternate Stat Quarantine (ASQ) hotel.

To keep things simple I planned on a trip of under 45 days, starting with 14 days of approved quarantine.

Also planning to get the vaccine here in oz asap and hoping that improves the odds.

Plan is to visit an old gf and her family in north east of Thailand and also doing some sight seeing.

Has anyone from Oz got into Thailand recently?

I love these Rip Van Winkle kind of questions.

you are looking at about $4-$5k USD to make through quarantine.

make sure you stay out of the Code Red zones. good luck.

That's the next problem, getting out of Oz.

If someone else has done it I'l know it's possible.

I bet you don't go when common sense kicks in. Not only do you need to quarantine in Thailand you will need to quarantine when you get back in Oz cost 3k!

Stay home send your girl some money instead

Especially to visit 'previous gf'.

Vaccine is not even on radar currently.

Is this a wind up?

Run for Parliament, then you can go anywhere you want.

You need to check out province information as well, chances are Bangkok won't allow travel to north-east Thailand.

Try again after you have been vaccinated.

At this stage Thailand has stated that any alien visitors will require quarantine even if can produce 'vaccine certificate'.

Vaccine will do little to change current situation.

I understand I'll have to pay for quarantine and top dollar for for plane tickets.

Just asking here to get an idea if it's possible and what the procedure it. From the thai embassy website it seems ok, although the quarantine requirements seem to keep changing

It's really tough. I'm an Aussie and I got in before Christmas but I wouldn't want to do it now.

First to leave Aus you need to have a valid reason related to work or family. You need proof of either of these.
2nd you need to show the Thai Gov you have no less than $25K AUD in your bank
3rd Pay for ASQ up front (before you've been approved the visa)
4th, 5th, 6th, all hoops you have to jump through that take hours and hours of hanging onto phones, writing emails etc. (Covid Insurance is a big gotcha too if you dont know what you're doing)
Then last is the BIG one. The Flight. Only Qantas and Thai Airways fly direct from Aus to Thailand. Qantas is not flying before August. Thai Airways were supposed to be flying in Jan but try and book a flight and see if you can get anywhere.

Personally I had to fly via Singapore (and quarantine in Singapore), then Fly to BKK (and Quarantine in BKK).  There was no way to fly direct to BKK.  The only reason I did all that was because of work and when I did it there were basically 0 daily cases in Thailand. I'm sure now they are even tougher.

Oh and the wait list to get back into Aus is 3 months. So you better be sure your ok with staying for a good 6 months.

Wow! really they won't let you leave? This world has gone crazy

Yeah, and I thought it was tough being a hated American... Well at least I'm allowed to leave. Hard to believe a western "democracy" would try to prevent free citizens from choosing to be somewhere else. Sounds like some East Bloc country from the 50's from which one needs to "escape".

Good luck to all you Aussies. Hope things get better for you.

They will, if you qualify;

  • your travel is as part of the response to the COVID-19 outbreak, including the provision of aid
  • your travel is for your business/employer
  • you are travelling to receive urgent medical treatment that is not available in Australia
  • you are travelling outside Australia for three months or longer
  • you are travelling on compassionate or humanitarian grounds
  • your travel is in the national interest
  • you are visiting an ex-girlfriend for a bit of sightseeing

Looks like the Aussie govt. puts up as many hoops to get out as the Thais erect to get in....

Australia isn't a free country any more, even though it pretends to be one.

Political correctness, overregulation and petty rules, with people encouraged to inform on each other, have ruined what was once a fun place to be.

i left aus feb 2020 when i was flying out it felt like i was leaving a jail, now there is 7 jails in the country

plus i left thailand over 2 years ago after 15 years same feeling, now in vietnam (i was a vet here)

No vaccine in OZ before March and the front line health workers first to get it

i don't know about from Oz, though any number of nationalities have walked across the porous border with Cambodia.

thanks for your understanding the initial topic and understanding to relating it to this comment

If you did possibly make it here which is very unlikely for 45 days a total waste of time & money.

And if in the realms of possibility got a flight home another 15 days in quarantine.

Just chill for 6 months

That's not all Joe. At the moment anybody wishing to leave OZ needs to obtain written permission from the aussie federal govt and the reason given by the OP (extended holiday ) would be rejected. So until the aussie govt removes that current requirement the OP is stuck in Oz.

Leaving Australia | COVID-19 and the border (homeaffairs.gov.au) This may be of some help to any Aussies wishing to leave Australia.

There are some automatic exemptions, but the OP does not meet them based on the reason in his post. In fact as I stated previously he does not meet any of the requirements based on his reason given, viz. extended holiday.

Automatic exemptions

You are exempt from travel restrictions, and can leave Australia without applying for an exemption if you are:

  • ordinarily resident in a country other than Australia
  • an airline, maritime crew or associated safety worker
  • a New Zealand citizen holding a Special Category (subclass 444) visa, even if they are usually resident in Australia
  • engaged in the day-to-day conduct of inbound and outbound freight
  • travelling in association with essential work at an offshore facility in Australian waters
  • travelling on official government business (including members of the Australian Defence Force and any Australian Government official travelling on a diplomatic or official passport)

Ordinarily resident

You are considered ordinarily resident in a country other than Australia if international movement records show that you’ve spent more time outside Australia than inside for the last 12 to 24 months. You do not need to carry a paper record of your movements with you. If required, Australian Border Force officers at airports can check your movement records in their systems.

I am aware of that. I was only answering his questions about entering Thailand.

Leaving Australia is another subject that is not for this forum. Maybe the Home Country forum would be best.
