Massage parlours plead for govt help

The Charawi Association for the Conservation of Thai Massage on Wednesday handed over a letter at Government House addressed to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, who is also chairman of the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, urging the government to help spa and massage parlour entrepreneurs who have been forced to shut down their businesses to prevent the new wave of Covid-19 from spreading.

“Since the first wave in Thailand, massage businesses have employed strict measures advised by the Public Health Ministry, including limiting the number of customers, rearranging the service area to abide by the social distancing rule and providing thermal screening,” said Pitak Yotha, a representative of the association.

“However, spa and massage businesses were one of the first groups ordered to shut down and also the last to be allowed to reopen, which is not fair.”

Pitak said there are currently about 1,700 spa and massage businesses in Bangkok and 15,000 in other provinces.

“As many as 11,000 businesses have reported permanent closure due to lack of money, while about 4,000 that are still open are following the guidelines laid out by authorities,” he said.

“We would like the government to relax its shutdown measures on massage businesses, or at least come out with relief measures, such as exemption on property rent until the situation improves,” Pitak said.

“Many spa and massage businesses have limited access to the government’s soft loans provided via financial institutes, while other campaigns such as ‘We Travel Together’ or ‘Let’s Go Halves’ are not specifically tailored for customers of spa and massage businesses,” he added.

Of course the Massage shops provide the relief needed, they just need to have some assistance now as they can not relieve their customers....looks like some self help will be needed one way or another.  No one ever saves for a rainy day......

Be interesting see the 'real' thai unemployment figures now if 30-40%  of businesses are closing

They simply have to adopt to the situation. They are not alone with such a problem. I personally have been supporting my ex girlfriend financially for many months. She has a small hotel but no customers. But she still has to pay back the credit for this hotel and her car. So government if you help these massage businesses then I insist that you help my ex girlfriend too ... and endless others that don't have powerful people behind them to support their interests.

The ones that are still open must have saved for a rainy day. But perhaps not a whole year.

And with a new record death count of 4,100 in the USA yesterday and with the highly contagious mutant UK strain also causing a record 63,000 new infections in the UK yesterday it looks like the rain will continue for some time.

My eyes glazed over when I read the first sentence, then bewilderment set in. As for the last sentence, this is precisely why distress sales for "businesses" homes, cars etc. will set new all time records in 2021.

We don't live together anymore but she has been my best friend for over 20 years. I can't watch how she ends in a complete disaster. I don't even expect any money back because it will be very hard for her to repay anything.

Nothing beats getting oiled up from head to toe and the odd accidental brush of the owd fella to get the blood flowing of a morning ????

Come on, you really think it's accidental? I'd call it opening negotiations.

I don't get it either, if she's your best friend why did you split up?

Are you positively sure business has been going down solely because of Covid-19?

She needs a marketing consultant to tell her if she changes her name to Miss Porn or Miss Bang, she'd be inundated with customers.

I have never been married. I am a person who likes to live alone even if I don't want to be alone. I like my freedom in my own walls. And I am old and then often priorities change too. And she likes her freedom too. And so there was no fight when we separated after more than 10 years. We had a great time together. But it got boring. I think there are many couples like this.

Fair enough, I like my space too. I spend half my time in my GF's village, half at the condo by myself.

You're reminding me of a poster who once said he didn't pay bar girls to have sex with him, he paid them to leave afterwards. No offence meant.

You're a good man Oldie and I'd probably enjoy having a beer with you. However to me Ex means finished, moved on, no more. All the best.
