Wrong! - at least in Surat Thani - See 2.8 as under

Of course, you could argue the point that the restaurant could SELL alcohol, but you are not allowed to consume it on the premises!

As long as people can still drink at a concrete table with a chess board on it, half the forum should be okay.

  • They don't care. If they could get away with it they would ban it indefinitely. Complaining to this government is akin to p*ssing into the wind.

  • Has anyone seen an official reason for the banning of alcohol? An official reason for the ban in Restaurants? Official reasons would be welcome plus translation if at all possible.

Pros:

Alcohol is much cheaper overall, especially spirits and wine

Decent wine bars and other cool places to drink

Long term visas are easier, especially if you are under 50

Weed is openly smoked there (if that's your thing, it isn't mine)

Cons:

Much higher crime

Dirtier overall, it is still a long way behind Thailand in this regard

Drive on the wrong (French) side of the road

Mongering is much better in Thailand if that's your bag

They use USD and their own worthless currency

Loads of dodgy expats there, everyone that fails in TL ends up in Cambo

Loads of hangers on, drugs and junkies there

Too many Chinese now

Overall I love Cambo but not sure I could live there. Thailand just offers so much more. I have been living in Thailand for 31 years and visiting Cambo for over 25 and have many expat friends there.

Thanks very much for the insight!

There are none Its just pure nonsense. Oh i know? They think the virus has a drinking problem Utter <deleted> they are doing this Why?

When and based on what criteria do they know the ban can be lifted ? There must be some kind of scientific logic behind it .

Or is it a lesson and obey reasoning...

What province restaurants are banned from selling alcohol.

Can somebody give me a decent explanation why reataurants cannot sell alcohol??  What has a glass of wine or a beer got to donwith Covid?? The guy who banned this does he know himself??

It isn't the drink, it's the socialising that goes with it.

I'm sure Mr Singa and Mrs Chang will be very upset. They would pack some punch, I would think, they probably are spanking Prayut right now.

Especially since Ms. Singha supported the coup.

Correct. Here in Chonburi loads of factory workers gather for a bevvy at restaurants at least once a week. It's to stop this type of activity and thus the transmission of the virus.

It costs the industry 9 billion? Now imagine how much their addicted customers can save during these difficult times.

9 billion in sales, 30 billion across the industry in lost wages.

it is fine to ban it in the restaurant. They are charging a lot of money for alcohol in a restaurant anyway.             water and coke prices will double.  and it is still a rip off too

Most Thai people buys from 7-11 and drink at home.. it is only the rich people and flush with cash farangs who will suffer the prestige in eating in expensive restaurant.

Not only an Italian meal costs a farang Bht 1500/person..( a overpriced rip off meal for just noodles) then add your super priced glass of wine for $ 15 ..It is ridiculous and so stupid to support such places.

what happened to cheap thailand?

Singa and chang don't make their money selling in the restaurant.

but at 7-11

I wonder which wise Einstein from Chula or some 5*hospital(hotel) recommended this be done. Totally <deleted> clueless.

Those in high office , wont be losing any sleep , over the lower caste ..

The logic that alcohol = covid is unfortunately largely true based on the mentality of many (many!) young Thai people. I.E. in order to have fun and drink requires large (and very loud!) close gatherings where everyone dances shouts and laughs in each others faces. The concept of having a casual few whilst sitting around politely  spaced apart and enjoying audible conversation is largely non-existent with that crowd. Nope, get drunk = assume the mentality and behavior of a toddler who just learned to walk, then bump into and slobber all over each other. Celebrate Thainess! ???? :clap2:

It was done once

Some people don't drink alcohol and they like to think people who do are somehow weak or dysfunctional.

Some people like to drink all day because they enjoy it and cannot find anything better to do.

For the rest of us, eating good food in a restaurant without wine is miserable. When you've had so much Thai food that it feels like it's coming out of your ears,  pasta/steak/pizza tastes a lot better with wine. A lot, lot better. Why shouldn't restaurant owners make a living?

Imagine running a place called Wine Connection, serving 1000 day old Gouda and Italian/Spanish meats and you cannot serve wine. I nearly cried into my porchetta.

Set the maximum table size to two. Or four. Problem solved.

I didn't know Thailand had a peak season for drinking alcoholic beverages... I always kinda thought it was consistent yearround.

How does 4 people sitting around a table together without masks solve anything CV related?

Also, although this is not my policy, I seem to recall that one of the ways the original CV outbreak in BKK spread in the first wave was thru Thais sharing food and drinks (passing around glasses and sharing utensils) among large groups at bars/pubs.

You're right, that's how I have always known it when I still lived in the west

You think it was an Einstein from Chula who banned selling alcohol in bars and restaurants in the UK and most part of Europe?

A lot of bars used to play the music loud, and play a certain kind of music that

made the people want to drink more. Now with Covid, flying in the air. Turn off that loud

crappy music and let the customers talk in a normal voice, instead of having to shout and

spit all over the place.  But no, we all know that Alcohol is evil, so ban it.

Geezer

Alcohol kills millions worldwide directly or indirectly, I see no problem with a government preventing their citizens from drinking poison.

People  are too stupid to stop drinking poison and acting like morons, so your leaders have to make the decision for you. You should be grateful.

Like I said "if managed correctly", if people were not allowed to abuse it there would be no problem.
