After taking selfies and vids of their criminality within the building and plastering it all over the internet you might conclude that alot of them are not the brightest kids on the block ..

It wasn't because they were stupid that they weren't afraid of prosecution.  It's because they believe that the President who sent them to attack the Congress would have their back.

And indeed he may.  All it takes is one stroke of the pen to pardon them, which is what I expect Trump to do.

45 may do it, but the US is on the cusp of social mayhem on a scale not seen in 150 years. If even decent people see there is no longer any rule of law, frontier justice makes a comeback.

That is what is most puzzling about the continued support so many (R)s are giving 45. Do they think there are not violent elements on the left? Isn't that what they bark about every time at least one person in a BLM protest loots?

If the insurrectionists take out a Dem elected official or a media person they don't like, it is only a matter of time before an eye for an eye takes out one of their own. Even if (R)s are traitors and seditionists, they ought to have the common sense to know they, too, will be in someone's crosshairs.

They crossed a dangerous line, and it is up to them, not the Dems, to tone down the rhetoric. ALL (R)s should make a statement of contrition, admit they lied about the election, that it was actually free and fair, and that 45 got hammered. Their continued repetition of the lies spouted by 45 is what is keeping the ignorant base frothing at the mouth.

ALL of the fault sits with those with an (R) next to their name. 100%.

I don't think there is anything the least bit puzzling about the support Trump has from the Republican politicians.  The Republicans' recurring problem is electing a president to sign their bills into law, since the GOP's policies of supporting the rich at the expense of everyone else makes it hard to get enough votes from everyone else.  For instance, it should be clear that in 2016 none of the other Republican wannabes could have beaten Hillary except Trump.  Neither McCain nor Romney could get elected even against a Black candidate.  But in 2016 Trump could do it.  So, he owned the Republican Party.

As to the effect of the Jan. 6 putsch I have not heard the media report on what the MAGA crowd thinks.  From what we hear about the plans of the putschists to rise up again on Jan. 17 and Jan. 20, they seem neither cowed nor contrite.

None of the talking heads is even acquainted with any blue collar workers.  I want to hear from Michael Moore who does talk regularly to such people.  It could be that the putsch has inflamed and energized them.  Some authoritarian attempts to get control like Viktor Orban's in Hungary fail the first time, but later succeed splendidly.  A Cruz or a Hawley could still emerge as a hero to many.
