Transferring car documents

Featured Replies

Hello Guys,

I like to sell my Toyota Fortuner but somebody told me transferring car documents will costs about 10500 thb.

I can't imagine it will be this price.

Do somebody have experience with this?Your answer is highly appreciated.

Your misinformed.

Transferring ownership of the vehicle is paid by the buyer can't remember exactly how much but it's a small fee for changing book details to the new owner.

could be a correct number - it isdepending on th sales price, my Accoed was sold for 700k and about 8k fee at the LTD was asked

The fee last time I checked (few years ago) was around 500 baht per 100k baht value for cars worth over 100k. Plus a few hundred baht fixed fees. 10k baht seems too much unless that car is valued at around 2M.

That's a huge different what MrJ and Kwasaki say, I tend to Kwasaki, after all the office who take care for transferring the blue book has nothing to do with this in my opinion?

Or I'm wrong?

It costs 105 baht to transfer ownership of a car, plus a duty of 500 baht per 100,000 baht value of the car as deemed by a Department of Land Transport mechanic who inspects the vehicle. This duty applies only if the vehicle is deemed to be worth more than 100,000 baht. It costs 105 baht to transfer ownership of a motorcycle, plus a duty of 50 baht per 10,000 baht value of the car as deemed by a Department of Land Transport mechanic who inspects the vehicle. This duty applies only if the vehicle is deemed to be worth more than 10,000 baht. There will be a fine if the registration of the car or motorbike being transferred has expired. However, the total transfer fee will not exceed 1,000 baht.

If I understand this correctly then there's a ceiling of 1k THB for the transfer fee. But it seems a bit strange to make a system where it is 500 baht per 100k value and the ceiling is already reached after the second step.

That's clear, thanks for the answer, however I'm confused, it is already the fifth car that I'm selling in LOS, and I can't remember I pay this amount for transferring.

Yes, I understand now, that's the reason I can't remember by the cars I have sold in the past, thanks for the answer.

I want to give my car to my non-spouse. It's worth about 600k but the sale price will be zero. Will one of us be charged VAT? Or just the fees discussed above?

Not that I know of unless it's a company car and you are registered for VAT.

I was just thinking they might use market value (red book) in the case where the vehicle is essentially a gift.
