The governor of Samut Sakhon province is on continuous respirator support, due to bacterial infection in his respiratory system, Siriraj Hospital said on Friday.

Governor Verasak Vichitsangsri was admitted to Siriraj Hospital on December 28, after he was found to be infected with the Covid-19 virus.

According to a report, doctors had thought of discontinuing his use of the respirator, but changed their minds as the governor’s respiratory system was found to be infected on Thursday.

The hospital said that the governor was conscious, but could not speak due to the respirator.

Doctors will evaluate his condition and response to medication within a few days.

Best wishes for the Governor. I'd rather die...????  (I saw my wife's Mother sucking on one 7 yrs ago and decided that's too much assisted living for me)

Is it a bacterial infection or a viral infecton?

If it is bacterial, then can be easily treated with antibiotics.

He's conscious but can't speak which suggests he's wearing some kind of higher than normal pressure mask or helmet type device like I've seen in use in Italy during the pandemic on TV clips.

That he's not in an induced coma and being mechanically ventilated via intubation is encouraging - at this point.
