I just tried to setup a Shopee account but they don't seem to like my US debit card (visa). Can anyone confirm they actually take non-Thai visa cards? There may be some other error but I wanted to rule this out first.

It's far more likely that your US bank is blocking the transaction because they believe it may be fraudulent coming thru a Thai based vendor. Call them and ask about using it overseas.

I have not tried to use a card as find direct bank transfer works fine with Shopee and no extra charges for using that method.  If you have online banking might want to use that as your payment choice.

I've never set that up before but you may be right. Thanks for the tip.

Shopee accepts only locally issued cards. You can find that in the knowledge base of shopee Malaysia and Philippines. Couldn't find that in the knowledge base for Sh.Thailand but I guess it's the same. There are other payment options though.

As per above shopee does not accept foreign cards. Lazada does.

That's good to know. Another said direct bank transfers work but maybe that's not true? Not sure why they wouldn't take foreign cards...

Probably high transaction fees for them. They encourage Airpay.

Bank transfers work with domestic banks, of course.

There is no advantage in paying cod

until something expensive goes missing or you change your mind and it takes 10 days to get your money back.
