A lone robber armed with a knife apologized to staffers at a Lad Prao convenience store that he had a child (or children).

He told a terrified lady who had been stacking shelves in the Pho Kaew, Bangkapi, branch: "Khor thoot na! Phom Mee luuk".

He then fled on a motorcycle in the direction of Soi 101 with 1,800 baht he was given from the till.

The staffer said she was with a colleague when the man came in wearing a cream shirt with short sleeves and a cap. He was carrying a bag and was a young guy.

Lad Prai police chief Pol Col Rungsakun Bunkrapheu said the assailant was about 25-30 with no mask. He appeared to have what looked like a fruit parking knife.

They are checking CCTV to get a lead.

It happened around 4 am Thursday.

No excuse...pathetic - lock him up.

I don't condone his actions but I wouldn't watch my kids starve either... there are other options to feeding a family.

No excuse... Do you mean there is no excuse for your elevated degree of sanctimony from your moral throne ?

From the report it seems rather obvious that this guy was at his wits end, no work, no food and a child to support - Pure desperation in a country without social welfare.

Without family and friends to turn to for help, in a country with rapidly increasing unemployment where more and more people are getting desperate there will be more and more of these stories.

Burglaries, robberies and confrontational crime will increase as the desperation increases - I don’t condone any of these actions, but the social conditions under-which these actions take place is the responsibility of the government who forget those most desperate at the bottom of the later, those who are ultimately most in need of the governments care.

Keep saying it. Open up the cash box. Get into those reserves. It will weaken the baht but strengthen society if people are given some direct cash support that is meaningful for housing and food and medicine.

99.9% of them have family and can return to a tin hut of some description in some run down village, he obviously chose not to.

He looks quite well dressed tbh, cheeky wee pair of white pumps.
