CHONBURI (NNT) - The Deputy Minister of Public Health has attended a meeting with eight eastern provinces’ governors, consider easing some social measures to facilitate local residents and businesses.

After the meeting between Deputy Minister of Public Health, Satit Pitutecha and the eight Governors and public health leaders of Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Sakaeo, Prachinburi, Nakhon Nayok, and Chachoengsao, all in attendance agreed that it is time to ease the stringent measures to allow residents to get back to their businesses and to jobs.

Mr. Satit assured those at the meeting, that the COVID-19 situation in the eight provinces has been contained. Some provinces haven’t found new infections for days, while Trat and Sakeao have not had to deal with any new cases for 13 days already.

According to the statistics concerning COVID-19 infections in the eight provinces from December 19 last year to January 22, there have a been 1,967 cases comprising 1,830 local transmissions, and 137 arrivals from foreign countries.

The patients were mostly Thais found infected without symptoms and aged between 5 months old to 93 years old. There are now 332 patients in hospital.

In addition, the security sector has been monitoring and launching proactive measures against the source of COVID-19, especially gambling clubs.

Illegal border crossings have also been prevented by a reinforcement policy to prevent any illegal migrant workers coming into Thailand.

And this means what exactly? Sounds like a doubling down on a failed policy to me!

'No new cases' could mean no new infections, or no new infections found because or lackadaisical testing.

Which one it is will become clear in time, but I know which way i will be betting.

A fairly uninformative spiel. Which restrictions are they looking at easing, does anyone know? The restriction of travel between provinces which necessitates having to line up with hundreds of others to get the necessary paperwork signed would be a great place to start with.
