So, some people pay 12000 for a good crown and some pay 20000 for the same thing ?

Not very surprising actually...

Three different types of crowns. All metal (usually gold), porcelain on metal base, and all ceramic. All have various advantages and disadvantages. The primary disadvantage of the metal based crowns is you cannot see underneath them via x-ray, so any problems cannot be found before they destroy the tooth underneath. Had several teeth ruined because decay started under old crown. The new technology all ceramic crowns can be probed via x-ray and are the most expensive but just as strong as metal based

my crown came off the other week due to the partial tooth under it breaking down, came off clean with no damage. Went to the dentist, they removed the partial tooth(800 baht) and I go back next week to have an extra rtooth added to my partial denture, price quoted was 2000 baht but I was under the impression that included the extraction. If the dentist broke the crown they should replace it free of charge as it is their fault.

not really what everybody else is saying here...

I think the best are gold alloy.  I think full gold would be too soft and also more expensive.

There are 3 benefits to gold alloy.  They rarely chip or break like porcelain can. They match the hardness of a real tooth so they won't excessively wear down or break real teeth they impact.   They require minimal tooth removal.  The main drawbacks are cost and the metallic appearance.  So they are best for molars which are not as visible.

Gold prices are really high right now so not the best time to be shopping for gold crowns.
