Pound soars to near-three year high vs dollar in Brexit boost - and could go even higher

THE POUND surged above $1.39 for the first time in almost three years today, lifted by rising Brexit optimism, broad-based dollar weakness and hopes for the end of a third national lockdown.

It's not about the strength of the pound but the weakness of the dollar. It's been in decline against all the major world currencies largely due to its inept response to Covid. It's going to take at least a few months to reverse that.

Sorry your wrong, it will end up badly for the EU, The UK will boom when C19 is over and the world reopens, the EU will be slow to respond and change

  • I fail to see what the advantages of Brexit are.  It seems you have problems with exporting good and importing raw materials.      It was a silly idea.  I suspect it will all end badly for t

  • Sure keep on dreaming, bad news is piling up and all the Brexiteers can do is saying.. the news is bias or this is just teething problems. Listening to the people who know in the business is not a thi

If you ever decide to return to the real world from your imaginary one, you'll find the EU's world influence is growing all the time. More items are produced to the EU's standards even if they are not destined for it. The € trusted more and more as a reserve currency. The EU is regarded as "the" group to do trade deals with. It's bigger than the US and more developed than China

haha, I do like a god laugh in the morning.  Dream on mate.

Even though it's a universally observed economic phenomenon that trade between nations is disproportionately weighted toward closer nations, that has nothing to do with Brexit because....?

Well I leave the gobble de gook to the experts.

Such victim blaming is a blessing for every incompetent government, as every f-up can conveniently be put on those that you actually have to take care of.

bababobo,

it was a genuine question,

a look into the matters would readily show who has been screwing,

government or manufacturers

many are the businesses around in Europe who have experienced problems, partly large ones, related

to regime shifting, ie becoming member of EEC/EU/EEA

UK businesses will be vanguards re exit problems

Desperation from Dominic Raab. No benefits from Brexit for 10 years. They should have used that as a slogan on the bus.

No its the fault of Brexiteers voting for Brexit despite being told it would cause problems.

Still they knew what they were voting for.

Brexit LIVE: Netherlands gloats after poaching UK firms - 'Brexit companies moving to us!'

According to the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA), 78 "Brexit companies" moved to the Netherlands last year. This was the same number as in 2019, bringing to overall total since the 2016 referendum to 218.

The agency said: "Not only are the amount of contacts continuing to grow, the number of Brexit companies that have opted for the Netherlands is also increasing. "In effect, the uncertainty of recent years has not disappeared."

A record 550 businesses are also in discussions with the agency about relocating to the Netherlands. This is an increase of 425 last year.
