I would think that given how easy it is to get a degree, one would get that first and then get whatever additional qualifications they might need to enhance their earning power. So to pass the external exams one must go to various tutorial schools to even have a shot at getting into medicine, dentistry, etc. The PAT 1 math exam is ridiculously difficult - een those getting 40% can get into medicine (applies to one of my students). Students rarely pass that exam. Education is a big business here, but I guess that's true in other countries as well - the Austraina tertiary sector is supported by international students, for example. Actually being able to have a conversation isn't all that important. ???????? When my wife was working she had to interview candidates for office positions where they would have to work with expat engineers. So many of them turned up with wonderful certificates issued on 'tick the box' tests and absolutely no ability to actually have a conversation in english. When my wife was working she had to interview candidates for office positions where they would have to work with expat engineers. So many of them turned up with wonderful certificates issued on 'tick the box' tests and absolutely no ability to actually have a conversation in english. Learning conversation english first and then grammar later is the only way to go. This is how I am teaching her. Conversational English, sentence structure, grammar and spelling. You should have helped the falangs out with advice or friendship. You know rather than, deciding to go with Filipinos...nice one..not. Personally, and I say this with respect, Filipinos are not nice to work with, especially if you make more money then them. Not to mention their real clicky/groupie work culture and tendency to be petty. Only being objective. ???? Oh, their English makes me cringe when that accent comes out.. Cheers!
