BANGKOK (NNT) - In order to add more green spaces to improve air quality in the city, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has renovated Vipawadee 18 Intersection 3 in Chatuchak district, making it into a new park.

The renovation is currently 80 percent complete. Permanent Secretary for the BMA, Silapasuay Rawisaengsoon inspected the work and explained it is part of the Green Bangkok 2030 project, an effort by the BMA to increase green spaces in the capital in compliance with the government’s National Strategy and World Health Organization (WHO) requirements, that there be 10 cubic meters of green space per person. At present, Bangkok has an average of 5 cubic meters of green space per resident, but has made significant progress in meeting its target.

The park at Vipawadee 18 Intersection 3 is one of 11 pilot parks of Green Bangkok 2030, and occupies a space of moe than 2 Rai in the area. The property was originally under the auspices of the Treasury Department but was handed over to the BMA in 2007 for public use. The park is to accommodate exercise, a playground, gardens and a leisure gazebo and is to be equipped with bathrooms, lighting and CCTV.

Construction is to be completed later this month, adding another green space and source of clean air to Bangkok, that can be enjoyed by its residents.
