Typhoid vaccination

Featured Replies

Is this still required if you live in cities such as Pattaya? I've read if rural yes more important

The only vaccine I would make sure of getting is Japanese encephalitis.........if in doubt get ever vaccine going..........I have had the lot and other than mild flu symptoms with the yellow fever vaccine, I've been fine.

Talking of Japanese encephalitis, anyone knows if boosters are needed if you had the vaccine two or three times already over the years? My last JE shots were three and a half years ago. The recommendations are fuzzy about this.

I thought vaccination against typhoid  was more for places like rural Africa.

A booster dose (third dose) should be given if a person has received the two-dose primary vaccination series one year or more previously and there is a continued risk for JE virus infection or potential for reexposure.

Not required at all in Thailand IMO.

1. Very, very little typhoid here.

2. The vaccine is not very effective...and needs frequent boosters (every 2-5 years depending on which vaccine  you get).

Basic food and water precautions and hand-washing  are the best approach and will protect not only against typhoid but also a host of other food and water borne diseases.
