The Magic "dolls"

Thug

Recommended Posts

Lately I've seen this guy around Siam square, near MBK, selling some strange small little Dolls that are supposedly able to move by itself. They are sold for 20 Baht. I saw a lot of foreigners looking and buying it. They were very amazed. So many people believed it.

But honestly, I have seen this same "Scam" in Argentina before a few years back, and YES it is a Scam. They are only stealing your Money.

Basically, there's somebody else near him helping move the little thingie with a "transparent" cordon. So he pretends that he can make it move by himself with his hands doing some tricky moves. But it's actually being moved by the "transparent" cordon.

When the another guy is with him, he pretends to be a Buyer and frenquently asks him How much do they cost each.

Have you seen this around ?

Please don't fall.

...small little Dolls...sold for 20 Baht...it is a Scam.

First time I see the offer of an article for 20 (twenty) Baht by means of alleged false representation called a scam.

Just the same, I am sorry to hear you were a victim. What did you do with doll after buying it and finding out that it does not move of its own?

I did not buy it.

But I easily figured it out that it was a Scam. The guy was allegedly hiding his left arm with a small blanket while moving it.

Some people aren't stupid, are they?

Hey I`ve seen these dolls for sale around MBK my wife and I always say they would make good christmas presents but never really got around to buying them,I will have to pay closer attention to them next time as it never really dawned on me that it was a scam.

Thanks for the tip :o

I first saw these in Tokyo about ten years ago. I was walking through Harajuku and a couple of young ladies were demonstrating the dolls on the street. One of them had a microphone and was giving the doll all these commands and it was obeying.

But she was also saying in Japanese to the audience, "If you have figured out the trick, please keep quiet and let the others find out for themselves." So everyone was having a good time trying to figure out how the 'magic' was done.

It didn't seem like a scam there. Once people figured it out, they bought one to play the same trick on their own friends. I think they cost 1000 yen...
