Community Python Crashes Through Ceiling in Attempt to Eat Pet Cats
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A dramatic incident unfolded in a residential home after a 5-metre-long python fell through the ceiling of a cat room in an apparent attempt to prey on a group of pedigree Scottish Fold cats. At around 09:00 on 5 August, rescue officers Mr Wirot Boonthai, 52, who is also a police volunteer and Ms Buppha Ampuang, 53, from the Nonthaburi 191 Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Centre, responded to an urgent call from a resident in Bang Mae Nang Subdistrict, Bang Yai District. Upon arriving at the two-storey house, officers discovered the massive python coiled on top of a cabinet inside a room used for housing cats. The room, located at the rear of the house, contained multiple Scottish Fold cats, two males, five females, and three kittens. Fortunately, none were harmed. Officers believe the snake had slithered into the house from a nearby overgrown area and fallen through a gap in the ceiling, which was under renovation at the time. Using snake-catching tools, the team managed to safely loop the snake and drag it from the premises. Ms Buppha explained that she arrived on the scene at around 07:00 after receiving the call for help. “When I saw the size of the snake, I knew I couldn’t handle it alone. I quickly called my male colleague to assist. We were afraid the snake might escape back into the ceiling, which would have made the situation far more dangerous.” The homeowner reported that the family’s maid had first spotted the snake in the cat room that morning and immediately alerted the owner. Emergency services were then contacted. The cats, which were kept inside an enclosure within the room, managed to flee and avoid harm. “It was pure luck they ran away in time,” the homeowner said. Once safely contained in a sack, the python was later released back into the wild, far from residential areas, by the rescue team. Adapted by Asean Now from Khoasod 2025-08-06 -

Thai - Cambodia Conflict Tense Standoff at Thai-Cambodian Border Defused Peacefully
Picture courtesy of SBM News via Naewna A tense encounter erupted this afternoon at Chong-arnma market, Nam Yuen district, Ubon Ratchathani. Five Cambodian soldiers were caught cutting through Thai-installed concertina wire marking the border. Ordered to stop immediately by Ranger Unit 2310, the troops withdrew without further incident. Earlier today, at 4.30 p.m., Thai rangers spotted the Cambodians dismantling the wire. The swift action of the rangers ensured the boundary was quickly restored. This incident occurred in a sensitive border area recently reclaimed by Thai troops before the July 28 ceasefire deadline. Thai forces have previously removed over 80 structures from Chong-arnma, a hotspot, due to territorial disputes. The area next to the Chong-Arrnma checkpoint is firmly recognised as Thai sovereignty. Commanders on the Thai side, Lt. Gen. Boonsin Phadklang and Maj. Gen. Winthai Suvari, have asserted that no further breaches of the 2000 memorandum of understanding will be tolerated, reported Thai Newsroom. The Thai authorities clearly see their actions as a defence of national integrity. The military presence and restoration of the boundary underline Thailand's stance on maintaining sovereignty. The peaceful resolution of this recent incident reflects ongoing tensions. The importance of respecting this boundary is critical. Both countries have a responsibility to uphold agreements and maintain diplomatic relations. Ensuring that these situations are handled with care is essential for regional stability.
