We are preparing to do a small building project and I want to do a quick check on the current average labor cost to perform the following work in Nong Bua Lamphu Province.

Labor cost includes all work for the items described below, metal rebar to match engineering standards. Site excavation is not included in the builders cost, and is on a separate contract.

The builder is very experienced having worked in Bahrain, Phuket and Bangkok and now trying to work closer home. I have inspected 2 other homes he recently completed and satisfied with his level of competence.

***The architectural plans are finished, permit in place etc, and just want to spot-check the builders estimate on a few items. ***

1. Column with Footing:

20cm x 20cm x 3.2 meter RC Column

1m x 1m RC Footing @ a depth of 1.5m + in the ground.

Height of the column is 3.2 meters above ground beam for a total

height of 5.1 meters + footing.

???: Labor cost per column with footing

2. Ground Beam:

20cm x 40cm with rebar per engineered plans.

???: Labor cost per lineal meter

Thank you for the assistance,

T

If you have hired a "builder", it is perhaps pointless to ask about labor costs unless you are paying directly.  (?)

That said, upcountry construction labor ranges from B400 to B1000 per day depending on skill required.  The skill required for columns and beams would be from the builder experience in getting them set properly and, if pouring versus buying pre-cast, getting the concrete mix right.  If the builder is paying the labor for that, it won't be more than B500/day.

I don't know anywhere that factors or pays for construction labor by column or linear meter unless an exercise to approximate cost.

Thanks for the 'reply'....

In many locations worldwide, including Thailand, (as this was the format the estimate was provided), it is common to cost out individual building units as a way of determining cost and doubling checking the overall estimate as determined from the BIM, labor costs and overhead.

This method is also utilized by many Estimating apps / guides that will give you ballpark figures on the accuracy of your estimate of that of another.

Further, I never stated I had  'Hired' a builder... ????
Cheers!

I said "If" you hired a builder he would use some type of estimating process to submit a bid.  You seem to be looking for actual labor costs which are not paid by piece or meter.

Typically I do not reply to such answers but in this case you are 100% wrong.

2 of the 3 estimates I have received for labor only, were submitted in the format of

per piece or per lineal or square meter.

Maybe this does not match your local experience, though having lived in Mae RIm and San Kamphaeng I do no some that cost out projects in the same manner.

As evidence, the image below of a quick worksheet showing a Thai estimate and English translation. Up to you to accept or not, and now I am off to more interesting & productive matters.

Cheers

It seems I misunderstand what you are asking.  In both of my replies, I have said that estimates, quotes, bids, etc. are indeed done that way.  Actual labor is paid by the day.  I thought you were asking how much the actual labor cost and again, that is not paid by the piece or the meter.  Cheers.

The above estimate is for the actual labor cost (no materials), and it costed out as per piece , square meter etc.

Cost of labor per day is 350-500 average as determined by the job,  we also rent Macros & tractors by the hour, day or project depending on our needs.

Not sure where this is going but if you think whoever did that estimate is going to pay his labor B1000 per footing, I think not.

Direct quote from bankruatsteve,

"Actual labor is paid by the day.  I thought you were asking how much the actual labor cost and again, that is not paid by the piece or the meter.  "

Regardless of the accuracy of the estimate, your attempt at deflecting away from the fact your above statement was 100% incorrect is amusing at best.

This type of thread is one of the reasons I find myself using this forum less and less.

Good luck on your future as a "DIY & Electrical Forum Expert".

Good bye.
