SOURCE: Pattaya City News: May 17th 2007

Motorbike Taxi driver alleges assault by the Mayor of Pattaya.

A bizarre case now from Pattaya Police Station. Police Major Somporn took us the case which involved a complaint made by Khun Tonglor aged 39, a motorbike taxi driver who works in Soi Siam Country Club.

He had been arrested earlier in the night after he had allegedly slapped the face of a staff member of Khun Niran, the Mayor of Pattaya.

The argument was over an advertising sign which the Mayor would like to have removed because it does not comply with local regulations pertaining to the construction of roadside signs.

As the team of local government officers was preparing to remove the sign, Khun Tonglor allegedly assaulted one of the team.

The Mayor was informed of the incident and he made his way to the scene and demanded that Khun Tonglor accompany him to the Police Station. He was placed inside the Mayors car and taken to Pattaya Police Station where he was later bailed pending a court appearance.

Upon his release, Khun Tonglor decided to file a criminal complaint against the Mayor who he alleges used excessive force during the incident. We understand that Khun Tonglor only wants an apology from the Mayor and he will then withdraw his complaint.

The latest information we have is that both parties are now considering their options.
