So, foreigners went from being called "it" to being called "aliens" in the short space of 62 years.  Thailand is such a progressive country.   ????

............and still called 'it' as well....................That vid that jingthing posted was quite interesting and honest too. For the first time in my life I understood what it felt like to be called a monkey.....................

I think there are a couple of things to consider when you watch the video.

 

The first is that the Thai language has no words for "he" or "she".

 

The second is that in 1958 the vast majority of the foreigners in Thailand were Chinese people.

I wonder what they think when they see "monkeys" with more money than themselves.  ????

???   What about เขา (he) and เธอ (she).

But the first is he and she and it. And the second is you.

เขา is not used for 'it'. เธอ can be used for 2nd or 3rd person.
Although มัน sometimes gets used for he/she in informal speech, Thais will object to it when they feel it's out of place.
