I dont believe any number what coverment announce, like today they say one infected in Loei. Call to my better half and she say they announce there 14 case! She is coverment officer and get "valid" data (if Thailand have any accurate data).

There are 14 cases recorded in Loei since April 1, 2021, in government records.

There was one new case announced in Loei today on April, 18, 2021.

So the government and your  better half are correct.

Maybe you misunderstand that 14 is total, and, today is one.

The complete government records file of all cases through April 18, 2021.

Download CSV file here.

Question:  What is the worst case scenario?  If these numbers continue to go up, when will they call it even and open the Bars and Clubs and Massage places?  June?  July?  Is there a lower limit (say < 100) for things to open up?

I am planning my October trip and do not want to experience another lockdown like what I went through January 2021.

in countries that don’t lock down, the virus carries on Un impeded.

That is in fact completely untrue. There was no lockdown in Thailand during the second wave but the virus didn't carry on unimpeded.

If you compare France to Sweden or Florida to California you'll see lockdowns make very little difference.

Not strange just different policies and different stages of the pandemic. In Thailand at the moment everyone who tests positive is required to stay in hospital until they test negative. So everyone who has tested positive in this third wave is still in hospital.

I repeat, if the figures are to be believed, one third of all Covid cases reported in Thailand since February 15, 2020 are STILL in hospital! If that's not strange I need to go an relearn the English language.

I predicted 5000 within 10 days after songkran if they can test 50 k a day they will find that many.

I have heard from family and friends that getting tested is not easy, and private hospitals are charging fees that most Thais cannot afford.

If so, how can they control

the situation from spiralling.

Local Thai are very worried this time.

Now you are getting into semantics.

Let’s just use the term “heavy restrictions “ in place of “lockdown”.

The Deniers are now coming around to defining a lockdown as when individuals lose freedom of movement, but that is the most restrictive lockdown.

Can't see farang getting the jab before end of year while these numbers continue to soar!

Private hospitals are saying they will have the vac in July ... so if you are willing to pay ... you will get the jab.

Utter nonsense.

Even your much lauded Sweden has had restrictions. And it's death toll is horrific when you compare it to the other Scandanavian countries.

Why compare it to other Scandinavian countries though? Is there something magical about Scandinavia that means they should have a low covid-19 rate? Sweden is much more international than its Scandinavian neighbours so a better comparison would be a similarly international country like the United Kingdom or France. I'm not saying there were no restrictions in Sweden but they were certainly fewer and they're doing better than France when it comes to controlling covid-19.

And no one's come up with a good explanation for the comparison between California and Florida, where the state with fewer restrictions ended up with a lower infection rate.

You clearly don't have an argument if the only thing you can do is toss around words like denier and conspiracy theorist.

I called Bangkok Hospital on Petchaburi Road last wed at 6 AM, scheduled a test for Thurs at 9 AM for 5,500 baht, and flew back to the US Fri at 9 PM.

So many posters express concern that opening Phuket in July to the vaccinated would be disastrous.  But infection or transmission by the vaccinated is rare (at least for those with two jabs of Pfizer or Moderna).  I'm one of these who was unharmful and untroubled in Phuket last month after quarantine and I hope to return in July more briefly without quarantine.  The surge bothers me but it won't make me any more dangerous.

Your data is wrong.

Florida has a higher infection rate and death rate than California.

You should note that California has an open border with Mexico (in terms of no COVID checks), so every day, hundreds of thousands of Mexicans cross into California. This means that California will always have a high infection rate, no matter what the governor does.

Regardless of the term for you, lockdowns are proven to be effective in lowering COVID infection rates.

So all bars weren't closed in January then?

You picked a bad example in Sweden. Far higher number of cases/deaths than any of its neighbours.

He unfortunately picks what he wants to suit his agenda, don't feed him as all he wants to do is continually argue.  I am sure he will comment on any post where people post the opposite of his beliefs.  Yes the bars were closed, the restaurants could serve no alcohol, and there were restricted zones such as Samut Sakhon.  The second wave this government wants one to believe was brought in by migrants, but in reality it was first spread by Thais returning from Myanmars Casino on the border who were entering illegally into the country and then only seeking medical help when they became sick after traveling and infecting others.  Then the Government backed traffickers kept it going.

Hardly surprising, and probably a result of govt blowing their own trumpet about the unbelievably low numbers of covid in country

The melody being blown from that trumpet has mainly foreigners catching the virus.

You can not catch a road accident or become infected with it like you can covid.

You can catch a road accident by being infected by someone else's accident. They also have long lasting health complications like quadriplegia and brain damage etc. These infections kill all ages and otherwise healthy people.

Strange therefore that there are only 2,186 Covid patients in hospital in the UK where there have also been three waves and more than 4 million infections.

Had the UK had the same policy of hospitalisations (or detention?)of all positive cases then you might see a comparable figure.

You could also say nearly one third of all Covid cases reported in Thailand since The French Revolution are STILL in hospital.  It still means nothing. As I pointed out and you ignored, ~12000 entered hospital in the last 10 days.  We are in the exponential rise of a new wave.

There is nothing strange about the numbers.

If the Thai Government were really serious that would fund free national COVID testing for ALL people in Thailand.

They will never do that for three reasons;

Money; can't spend any HiSo funds on the peasants.

Loss of face; after the WHO congratulated Thailand on effective management of COVID. They would now look stupid if national testing showed the virus was and is out of control.

Resources; they don't have the logistics, qualified medical personnel and supply chain.

Yes, but are those road accident infections exponential?

Personally I have had enough of Thai statistics.

It's my view now they are all just manufactured, but not just to lie or hide the real picture, I believe they just dont know how to gather and collect accurate data, and I dont just mean Covid, but can never admit it.

I dont believe the road death stats, the tourist forecasts (and historic numbers of visitors), the number of unemployed, the one million bar girls doing nothing now and any other number they come up with. They do not have the capability or expertise to accurately collect and report on such a large scale, and they are not alone.

If there is a million bar girls looking for work train them in the use of a syringe and the vaccinations will take a week if they do 60 a day each. Sorted! ????

.

Are many of these bargirls and other prostitutes not using drugs anyway and know how to use a syringe?

Nope. A Pattaya urban myth. Most of them don't smoke cigarettes' and an appreciable number don't even drink.

You were wrong to say there was no lockdown, if everything has been closed and locked up, it is a lockdown, whatever anyone wants to call it.

I spent New Year at a hotel in Pattaya and virtually everything, apart from some hotels and food courts in malls which were takeaway only, was closed.

We saw the New Year in on the balcony looking at the fireworks in the distance, Pattaya was in darkness and the streets were empty.

And you think that proves there was a lockdown? I was in Hua Hin and everyone was enjoying themselves on the beach and night market. Plenty of restaurants were open too. What you're describing is the decimation of Pattaya's tourist industry as a result of restrictions on tourists entering Thailand.

You are truly delusional.  Your trying to say only Pattaya and its tourist industry were closed as far as restrictions.  Tell that to the rest of Thailands folks and those of us who even here in BKK could not have a drink with dinner, go to the gym, or even enjoy New Years with Alcohol and live music.  Seriously, your in your own world it appears.
