Thai Rath reported that three ticket holders in the north eastern Thai city of Mahasarakham won a total of 30 million baht on the latest draw in the state lottery.

Local councillor Jongrak, 58 and his wife Phanida, 56, got 12 million baht. They own a "laab" shop and will use the money to pay for their daughter's medical studies.

They prayed for success at a temple.

The second was a 21 year old lottery ticket seller called Phisit. He couldn't sell all his stock and decided to play with one ticket netting 6 million baht.

He'll invest more into the lottery business and clear debts.

The third winner of 12 million didn't want any publicity but is a grocer in the area of Wat Koh Koeng in the city.

Often wondered what happened to the unsold tickets.
