Notary

Featured Replies

I need to get signatures notarized on a deed.  I have always gotten notary services done at the embassy in Bangkok.  I made an appointment, but it is a month away.  Thought there might be quicker way.  Thai lawyers provide notary services.  Would a document notarized by a Thai lawyer be valid in the states?

Thanks in advanced.

 Suspect not.

For the notary system to work -the lawyer has to be registered.

That  Thai system is unlikely to work outside Thailand.

Embassy is -I think -your only path.

For a deed recording, the Thai notarization will definitely not be sufficient.

Once, I needed to perform a function with the State of Michigan, and I explained that I could not obtain a valid notarization (embassy was closed at the time). They agreed to accept a Thai "notarization" of my passport for identification.  But it was considered an exception for a very unique circumstance, and one that did not involve "recording" anything, such as recording a deed. I was retrieving assets that went to the State after being "abandoned". I suspect that if the assets were considerably more than the $2,000 involved, even then the Thai notarization would not have been accepted.
