Thailand’s Ministry of Defence has trimmed its budget for 2022, for the third consecutive year, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, so that the government will have more funds available to control the disease and help the people affected by the outbreak, Defence Ministry Spokesman Lt Gen Kongcheep Tantravanich said yesterday (Monday).

The Defence Ministry’s budget for the 2020 fiscal year was cut by 18 billion baht, compared to the year before, and by another 17.2 billion baht in the 2021 fiscal year, said Lt Gen Kongcheep, adding, however, that budget cuts will not comprise the military’s readiness to defend the country.

Total public sector spending for 2022 has been set at 3.1 trillion baht, 5.66% less than in 2021.

All those nasty protesting students who want to reform the country and have it run on Democratic lines.   They are heavily armed with peace in their heart's, a clear open mind and a 3 finger

  • I bet those subs are still in there.

I bet those subs are still in there.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

I was going to say:-

Hoping the Chineese submersible water pipes have gone away!

But no, unlike the BiB they will not be introducing new uniforms.

They could cashier a few hundred unneeded Army generals, which would save quite a bit of money. It's been a couple hundred years since Thailand faced any serious external threat (and when it appears, they just rollover and play dead, like in the case of the Japanese in WWII).

The fact that illegal immigrants are continually and daily invading Thailand, one would have to say that the defence budget is allocated in the wrong direction. Be better aimed at border protection than submarines

You surely cannot be serious, completely different, not just a few baht for crossing the border, but millions from kickback for subs.

The nasty Myanmar army that usurped the democratically elected Government.   ... Oh!

Interesting how Taksin was squeezing the military.

The blue line in change in GDP, would be more interesting to see military spending as a percentage of GDP in an annual bases.

From what enemy?

Ah yes, but the subs are a one off. People trafficking is a cash cow that keeps on giving. It is far more democratic too as there are allegedly more people involved of differing socio/economic classes.

Tragic is the only word that comes to mind.  With all the suffering associated with Covid, these gentlemen have had to suffer on in silence with their misery unrecognized.  There really is no justice.

But that is just a one off. The border is there 24/7/365 and its a steady earner.

Oh no!

How will they pay for the Maybach Mercs the Covid Club Cathouses, and the Mea Noi now?

So true, but a major internal threat has recently been eliminated.

A entire battalion of the Angry Farang Freedom Brigade was captured last week in a sting operation offering unlimited 20฿ beer and free Pringle chips.

The Thai military remained camouflaged, surrounding the AFFB soldiers until they were thoroughly sh*tfaced before moving in for the capture. Some confused AFFB troops attempted to elude capture by mixing with the locals , but their Chang singleton & flipflop uniforms betrayed them.

A spokesman for the Thai military told reporters that he did not expect to defeat the wily Thai insurgents so easily though.

He opined that a more nuanced approach offering free lottery tickets and somtam may have to be employed to deal with the battle-hardened Thai dissidents.

These are indeed troubled times for the Kingdom.
