Yesterday's Immigration Bureau press conference gave details of the latest action to stem the flow of illegal migrants into Thailand.

The main case involved a Thai man called Sutha,51, who was arrested carrying 11 bags in a pickup heading between Chumphon and Prachuap Khiri Khan.

Police believe he had been involved in the transport of 11 Myanmar migrants including Asa, 44, who crossed the border from Malaysia illegally.

The migrants had no papers at all and were rounded up at a temple in Chumphon where they were hoping to be picked up and transported further north.

Sutha was acting as a lookout vehicle leading the way ahead when he was arrested.

The migrants were on their way to Mae Sot, Tak in order to cross illegally back to their home country, reported Naew Na.

They had paid 3,200 to 3,500 Ringgit (a little over 20,000 baht) to an agent for a journey that included a ride in a long tail boat in Songkhla.

Investigations continue to track others involved in the illegal smuggling of the migrants.
