Yup, it's a pandemic.  Quite why anyone thought it wouldn't eventually affect Thailand, I have no idea.  The numbers are still relatively low, and in my opinion, don't justify the panic being expresse

The number of COVID patients in critical condition declined on Monday to 1,169, down 41 from the prior day's 1,210 tally. The share of those requiring ventilators to breathe declined by six from 412 to 406 cases. But the total number of hospitalized COVID patients rose from 44,189 to 45,307 for the past day, topping the 45,000 mark for the first time in the pandemic, though many of them are asymptomatic patients undergoing quarantine in field hospital facilities.

Lucky man, its not the same for everybody who's had their first dose.

Vajira Hospital has sent out a message saying that they will postpone appointments for the second jab of AstraZeneca due to be given 25 May - 4 June 2021. No reason was given. These people had their first jab 23 March - 5 April 2021

The good PM took his second shot more than 2 months after the first. I wonder if they checked to see how many antibodies he had.  I also wonder if this is why they want to squeeze out more than 10 doses in a vial.  Well that and more money.

‘Phuket Must Win’ must close

PHUKET: The ‘Phuket Must Win’ web portal for people on the island to register to receive a state-provided COVID-19 vaccination will no longer accept registrations from Thais from June 5, and no longer receive registrations of foreigners after Tuesday (May 25).

Vajira Hospital in Bangkok announced the postponement of second doses of the AstraZeneca COVID vaccine that had been scheduled for May 25 to June 4.  The announcement doesn't give any new date for the future vaccinations, and doesn't appear to give any reason for the postponement.

The Thai government has been insisting that the first of its millions of doses of the locally produced AstraZeneca vaccine will begin arriving on schedule starting in June, despite some recent local news media reports suggesting the local production is behind schedule and will fall short of its initial production goals.

Either full or no vaccines or both.

What a surprise and yet so predictable. If mass testing took place i wonder what numbers we would be fed.

I wonder why the left hand of the doctor always conveniently covers the needle touching the skin. Same with Chompoo. Same with Anutin.

These public vaccinations are just silly PR stunts IMO.

High figures again 2.5k+, the new norm a sad reality that the situation is still not under control. The UK variant now swept throughout Thailand, figures for that are between 85 - 95% of all cases that I've seen quoted. They failed to contain that in Bangkok mainly due to Songkran travel, however they are doing a better job by the looks of it in containing the South African strain cluster with the sealing off of the area's concerned.

Fingers crossed on that one.

The daily numbers are completely useless without knowing how many tests were done. Even more so when they try to bury or drip feed bad news like the prison outbreak. Mass testing would produce huge numbers of positives and I'm pretty sure that's why they don't do it - it would heap even more pressure on them and their vaccination debacle.

For Astra Zeneca they found it is more effective if second shot is given much later. In Europe second shots have also been postponed to 4-5 moths later. Maybe Sinovac is similar?

Southeast Asia reported the lowest number of Covid-19 cases on Sunday in four days while deaths linked to the disease were the lowest in over a week

Asean sees sharp drop in Covid-19-related deaths and new cases

FWIW, in the past 7 days up through today, the official reports have had FOUR days with the total case counts above the 3,000 mark, and THREE days below it, including today. Before today, the prior three days in a row had had 3,000+ daily totals.

I believe the government here has also said at some points that they wanted to prioritize first doses because those provide significant protection against serious illness and death, even though not as much as after receiving a full second dose.

In the case of Vajira, it could be either of those kinds of things, or, it could be something else. The fact they didn't give any reason for the postponement kind of leaves it open to speculation.

And if the reason was to maximize dose effectiveness  as you suggest, and nothing else, you kind of wonder why they wouldn't have provided the new dates for the future vaccinations now, instead of leaving that unresolved.

I realise I'm in the minority here, though.

Seventy per cent of the population in 11 provinces will be vaccinated by August, as per the target set by the National Communicable Diseases Committee.

Dr Opas Karnkawinpong director-general at the Department of Disease Control, as a member and secretary of the National Communicable Diseases Committee, on May 17 issued guidelines to provincial governors on Covid-19 vaccination.

The document states that the first dose of AstraZeneca will be allocated from June - September. The government has set a target to vaccinate 47 million people nationwide, equivalent to 70 per cent of the national population.

Not sure why you quoted me. My post is about how numbers can remain virtually the same for a month maybe more where large clusters are now being found.

We live in weird times indeed, most people seem totally oblivious to math, statistics and chance calculations that show them that the ride to the test center on the back of a motorbike is a lot more dangerous than the actual infection.

Interesting chart...pretty amazing numbers for ASEAN, an area with pop equilivent to the US or Europe; less than one-fifth the deaths on 1/10th or less the per capita GNP.

Just because your observation of cases floating around 2,000 is very much what I would expect and, for me, not really a cause for panic.

These are weekend numbers too.  Yikes!
