Popular Post oldcpu
Bars are still closed, and restaurants are not allowed to serve alcohol (all across Thailand - and Phuket is no exception). However there is more to life than bars and alcohol (and I type that noting I also on occasion like to visit a bar and have a drink, and enjoy a beer or wine with my meal). As a retired expatriate in Thailand, where retirement income is not dependent on the current economy, Phuket is very nice at present. No traffic, making it very easy to get from point-A to point-B in decent time, as opposed to before COVID when traffic could be bad at time. The beaches are relatively quiet, and in some cases empty, making it very pleasant to visit the beaches. Some restaurants (and local hotels) are offering amazing bargains, for one to visit to eat (restaurants) or stay at a nice 5-star (for a weekend or so). From that perspective, some of us in Phuket are currently very spoiled. The very sad part is many Thai people are suffering from the closed businesses - and so the retired friends in Phuket I know, all hope that the the economy picks up again (which means more traffic, and crowded streets/businesses) such that there is less economic pain on the Thai who depend on the tourism. There is a good chance before end-June that over 70% of Phuket residents will be vaccinated, where from a vaccination perspective that puts Phuket in an enviable position relative to other areas of Thailand where a much smaller % of the local populous outside of Phuket are currently vaccinated.
