PM orders "Mor Prom" slowdown - vaccine must go to where it's needed most

A high level meeting chaired by Thai PM Prayuth Chan-o-cha decided to but the brakes on registration for Covid-19 vaccine on the Mor Prom application.

This followed stats that showed some provinces - notably Lampang where people were subject to strong pressure to vaccinate - had high registration yet low incidence of the virus.

In other areas registration was low yet incidence of Covid was high, reported Daily News.

The media quoted PM's office spokesman Anucha Buraphachaisri as saying in the light of registration figures the PM had put the brakes on Mor Prom registrations for now.

Strategy was shifting to providing vaccine resources to where they are needed most, where there are the most cases rather than where there are the most registrations.

Anucha said the meeting resulted in opinions that were in unison.

The CCSA has been tasked with recommending where vaccine should go and reporting back.

Thailand's rollout has been slow by most standards but they have promised more locally produced vaccine by next month.

In the survey of 77 provinces including Bangkok the capital naturally with its large population came out on top with 516,262 registrations.

The city can expect to be the recipient of preferential treatment due to the number of cases there.

But small Lampang in the north - due to the actions of the governor there - got 223,000 plus people to register.

They won't get much vaccine though.

The governor of Lampang is the same man who was closely involved with the cave rescue of the young Thai footballers some years ago.

Chiang Mai had 43,000 registrations, Chiang Rai, 19,000, Prachuap Khiri Khan 9,000, Chonburi 36,000, Khon Kaen 16,000, Korat 33,000 and Phuket was 3,370.

It was all going very well in Thailand until April when the English B117 variant showed up which has caused 90% of the deaths here.

And with the worst day now being 41 deaths compared to the UK which had over 1,800 deaths on a single day, they certainly continue to manage the B117 situation better than the UK, the US and many European countries.

that is because there is no vax to give away. Those 6mln with appointments made since 1.05 will be slightly disappointed.

day after day all stories about delays, changing plans. Surely 68k grey cells is not enough.

The only coming is sinovac. Out of the blue, in millions.

Thai conglomerate CP has 15% shares in this company.

Vials go by 650b, so it's not chep. And the least effective from all available

No wonder if people are losing confidence in this debacle.

It's needed everywhere most, about 7 millions registered so just how many doses do they have?

The simple solution is to just register EVERYONE.

Stop dicking around with registrations as if they are the same as vaccinations.

The government has enough information on everyone, including foreigners, to register, prioritize, contact everyone.

Yes, we all know some are in Bangkok and not at home where they are registered, but those can be dealt with.

Now the solution is to "provinicial-ize" the vaccination program?

You know they've failed, and are desperate, when they cede control from Bangkok to the provinces.

Mor Prom, Less Filling.

Foreign tourist hot spots were top of the list and got much criticism while front line workers seemed not so

They have supply issue, it's obvious.

AU also had initial roll out problems.

Attached is a chat from friend in Victoria, Oz re the process.

Vials=10 (12!) doses, so 65 baht (or less) a dose. Cheap. <deleted>.

I assume it's 1 dose per vial. As it should be.

If different, thai government approved on 4th january 1.3bln budget for the first 2mln sinovac doses.

And later private hospitals mentioned 3.3k for 2 vials, but they were bared by the government from importing up to 10mln doses

Somebody's worried that the 'maid' 'gardener' 'driver' 'au pair' 'delivery man' won't turn up today?

Next move to suck out via hypodermic any vaccine they have already give out.

It is 10 doses per vial, some countries manage 11 doses per vial, Thailand is trying to squeeze 12 doses out & have come in for some scrutiny and eyebrows raised at that suggestion, ie are they giving people the correct full dose ???

One would have thought this to be a correct strategy from the start... but hey cut him some slack.

He's not a politician.

Handling everything except the required number of vaccines.

Vial =5ml. Enough for 10 doses (12 doses in Thailand!?!)

Syringe =0.5ml dose

There is an image here of a multi-dose vial of AZ. https://www.healthline.com/health/astrazeneca-vs-sinovac

Quote (24th Nov 2020): It is selling the COVID-19 vaccine (AZ) to Thailand at the cost price of US$5, or 150 baht, per dose. However, that is considered high when compared to the vaccine prices of other biopharmaceutical companies, like Pfizer (?) or Sinovac.

I seldom wonder if these guys had to go to war, would they be doing as much flip flopping as they are with this Covid situation, no doubt they would obviously lose the war, come to think of it, Covid is a war, oh $hit !

A thought crossed my mind that this could be a smoke screen to hide a lack of syringes or needles. ????

He means the two shots that went into him was needed most then ????

No more holes to hide in for the loosers. Judgement day is near.

...... Slowdown.... The Country hasn't got into 1st gear yet,  and only yesterday Anutin said there is plenty of vaccine to go round, can only happen in Thailand...

More?  They have yet to produce vaccine in Thailand right?  Oh, China-Thailand same same ok ????

I<snip>

Of course, cuz if they had sufficient vaccine, this would not be necessary.

650 baht for at least 6 doses is cheap. Not chep.

as I have explained later, the thai government has payed 650b per dose. I assumed that they are in vials by 1 dose, as all vax should be.

this idea of doing 6-12 shots per vial will lead to mistake in dosage. Also can lead to deliberate under dosing or overdosing by nurses.

There was a case of  doctor administering vax at wrong dosage to some 8 patients. He gave them several times higher from recommended.

Even now, when taking vax at private hospital they have to show you the vial first, so you can check if it's real and unopened.

With multi dose vial it's impossible to be sure, if it's real or diluted with water.

Surely those genuine quality vax on the black market are stolen, probably mostly by the medical staff, nurses. It will be easier for them to put doses aside, especially with thousands of patients
