However, this will not compensate for the shortfall, because AZ originally reserved the 6 million for the elderly and people at risk.

In the meantime, however, Phuket and other holiday destinations are to be supplied with an alleged herd immunity in 1-2 months.
And by the way, the whole of BMA and other hotspots are also to be vaccinated to 70 % in this short period.

Even if BS could consistently deliver the announced quantities over the months, the question should be asked as to how this is possible ...

Remember Yingluck Thaksin being raked over the coals in 2014 for "dereliction of duty and abuse of power" plus the Rice Scheme fiasco.

Compare and contrast that with the Vaccine Scheme fiasco today?  Just saying.......

This makes  3 days of announcements each completely contradicting the statements of the previous day.

Anyone want to place wagers on how many days straight this will keep up?

The government's like one of those little battery driven toy cars I had as a kid.  Turn it on and it runs until it hits a wall, backs up and run until it hits a chair, backs up and runs until it hits the cat.  The cat gives it a whack and the car end up on its roof with its little wheels just spinning, spinning, spinning...

I mean I thought that the trains would run on time with this sort of "government"?

Efficient, no corruption, military-like precision and leadership. Oops.

Another example of the failure of nepotism.

Donkeys years ago ( late 70s I think) there was a very funny cartoon in Punch magazine.

It showed a policeman interviewing witnesses at the scene of a bank robbery.

The witness was saying: "It was like a military operation - a complete cock up from start to finish!"

Somehow 45 years later, in a totally different context, and on the other side of the world, it remains as topical as ever!

No conflicts of interest here?
CP ---> Coronavac
Siam BS --->  AZ
CRA ---> Sinopharm
No no no....all for the good of the public's health.

"Then where's Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech, and J&J?"
In the circular file in the Thai FDA offices?  ????

Better to just be honest about this. And say Anutin stumbles once again.

most EU countries have given up on AZ, for failing to deliver, and the strange "side effects" that has everyone scared and ask for Pfizer instead.

that could mean a ton of new AZ doses for you guys in Thailand ????

Exactly. AZ is in court in Europe trying to fend off punitive fines (EUR10/dose) for delays in delivering 300m doses, which it now does not expect to fulfil much before December.

Maybe they should have charged $10 per dose then.

Instead they get fined for giving everyone the vaccine at cost price and then failing to deliver when demand outstrips supply.

What they should have done was not promise/contract to supply three or four times what they could produce and then try to sell the volume they had to multiple 'customers'. That's why EU (and others) took umbrage. So would you, if a shop here tried it on you.

One word - Useless.

"Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha was among the lucky few to get his second jab on May 24."

Luck? LUCK? I think they have a different meaning for the word luck in their vocabulary. Luck had nothing to do with it, not even Yingluck. "Well, it was either the PM or a street vendor, so we flipped a coin and that's how PM got it."

The plan stumbles...

To effectively stumble-proof a plan one needs to think. This government is not known for its deep thinkers.

The Myanmar army is made up of village idiots. That's why they don't mind shooting their own citizens by the hundreds. How much better is Thailand's?

"...plan stumbles" should be better termed "plan collapses."

With regard to SB alleged production of AZ since circa February 2021, what evidence is there that any AZ doses have been massed produced? Thus leading to a 'shortfall of AZ doses.

When was there an independent government audit of SB's alleged production claims (ie., five 'lines' of vaccine produced through April 2021)? The Parliament House of Representatives should demand immediate access to SB's production facilities and audit to confirm its production.

If it was not so serious it would be hilarious..

The lies, the absolute ability to look a camera in the face & tell porkies to all  your people.

The PM, Health Minister & cabinet should leave this whole fiasco to somebody else, which

looks like as of last night just may happen.

It will be interesting to see how this power game plays out in particular as one side of the

game is very involved with the" failure to supply Company

As seen everywhere else, not just here. Johnson, Macron, ScoMo, Jacinda, whoever is running US (if anyone), etc. It's called "politics".

Chulabhorn Institute has been given sweeping powers late last night.

I registered with them on the 18th of this month.  I'm number 200 and something thousand in the queue.  I won't be holding my breath.

Common seriously? Surely there must be at least 1 competent person in this government who can pull it all together.

What do they plan to do? starve everyone to death?

Cases keep rising, so not only no vaccine but incapable of handling or containing it.

How difficult can it be to switch labels to make the cheap junk look like the best thing ever ! ????????

I've see so many flip flops over the past few months with regards to the COVID-19 vaccine roll out in Thailand. The only thing that is consistent is that the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) and PM are consistently inconsistent. Let's wait out and see what wonderful inconsistencies come to fruition in the coming days, months or even hours. The left hand seems to have no idea what the right hand is saying or doing, good governance and trust can only be achieved though accurate dissemination of information from the governing authority.

If BS can't deliver anywhere near the promised quantity, and frankly I can't imagine any other scenario, then we can also conclude that the other 8 countries in SEA that are supposed to benefit from this deal have a similar problem.

As already known, the Thai contract manufacturer BS is supposed to produce a total of 200 million dosess year for this region as a whole.

Personally, I do not have the confidence of the Health Minister that AZ will be filling the "unexpected" shortfall in Thailand under other 8 countries involved from other sources.

The EU can tell you a thing or two about how reliably AZ fulfils its contractual obligations "with best efforts" ...

...and just because SB produce 3, 6 or 10 million doesn't mean Thailand was first in the queue to AZ...of the 200million SB say that can produce per year (16.6million per month) Thailand is only receiving 26million, so the probability is they may go elsewhere or split between other countries...

That White Knight aint all that.
