Bangkok Or Nakorn Pathom

Featured Replies

Hey, wondered if anyone could offer any advice - I have been offered a job for 3 months over summer, based between Bangkok and Nakorn Pathom, and now just have to make the decision of which place to base myself and live.

My salary is 30,000, and im quite adept to living cheaply (with the odd blow out here and there). So it would be nice to hear anyones views, experiences etc on what you would do if you were me!

thanks :o

The area Buddhamontol is between BKK and NP. It's quite residential, more houses than there are condos. You can find a 2 bedroom townhouse for around 4-5,000 per month, or there is cheaper temporary student-like accomodation in Salaya.

Central Pinklao is easily accessible by bus, which takes 30-45 minutes. Add on another hour to reach downtown BKK.

Compared to BKK it's very quiet. One of the benefits living here is Buddhamontol park, it is beautifully landscaped, huge, and free!

There is a small farang community thanks to MU campus in Salaya, so there farang food can be found easily.

I lived in BKK for years, but after living out in the suburbs, I wouldn't live in the city again. I just can't stand the smell of the pollution, which isn't a concern here. The downside is that it can get quiet, too quiet, when compared to BKK.

Good luck.

I lived in Phuttamonthon for two years between sai 2 and sai 3 Between the main road and Thawee Wattana Rd.

It's a lot better than living in the city and you can take an air bus directly to victory monument to catch the sky train or a taxi to wherever you want to go.

However, the burning of rubbish as night--either from homeowners, or the big dump not far away---was so bad that I found it hard to breathe many nights. Another thing is that it seems you will get lots of clouds and thunder but not much rain to cool things down or clear the air. Many many times the storm just passed us by. Nights were as hot as day time 94 during the hot season.

If you have to have night life this is probably the farthest out you would want to go, if not, then I'd go past Salaya....quieter, greener, less pollution.

Thanks for the info guys, ill do some research into the places you mentioned and continue to have a think. Dont really mind where I live really, its just the money side of things that matters most, as im coming to Thailand with very little savings :o so need to make sure my living costs are quite low.

If thats you in the avatar ill take you for a free meal or two! :o

For 30000/month I'd go home and try earning a decent living...
